Part of the DTE-v2 stack; this PR: adds the dynamicThinkingEffort experimental toggle (DTE-1) — the experiment flag in packages/types, its registration in the extension experiment registry (src/shared/experiments.ts), the localized Experimental Settings display, and the accompanying tests. First unit of the series and the pipeline validator for the v2 workflow.
Stack: base = upstream main (cross-fork PR — head easonLiangWorldedtech:feat/dte-v2-1-dynamic-thinking-effort; branches cannot be created in this repo without push access, so the DTE-v2 stack branches live in the fork). U1 is the first unit of the DTE-v2 stack; no lower PRs, so the diff displayed vs main is exactly the standalone diff. The head also additively merges the current upstream main tip (a15ba8c8a — surviving-mutant PR comments #2293, the leading-edge debounce replacement #2268, the Anthropic prompt-cache TTL provider surface and its visual baseline, the i18n load-path and diagnostics work, and the release/infra commits before them) so the unit tracks main and so the gallery harness in this branch is the one visual-regression.yml renders: 379 additions + 2 deletions = 381 lines (≤400 budget). (measured with git diff --shortstat a15ba8c8ace93a5bba85da6d6883963e85f7614e HEAD; the 4 binary PNG baselines below are excluded from the arithmetic)
Main sync (2026-09-05): head e89cceddd additively merges the advanced upstream main (0d937c050 → 0dbd5846f, 5 commits: v3.82.0 release prep #1533, GPT-6 Astra #1506, DeepSeek V4 Flash Vision #1488, the throwIfAborted helper + completePrompt options regression tests #1288, and the async Task.dispose() test-teardown fix#1527). Clean merge — zero conflicts; the standalone diff vs main is unchanged (397 — per-file numstat verified identical to the pre-sync measurement), so no U1 content changed; all local gates re-verified on the sync head (see Verification).

Re-review RC on SettingsView.spec.tsx (posted against head 53f22dc24) — the added persistence test covered only the false → true path; a second case now seeds the supported unset representation (dynamicThinkingEffort key omitted), asserts the toggle hydrates as off, round-trips the toggle on and off, and pins the saved payload to dynamicThinkingEffort: false — so the payload contract is asserted for true, explicit false, and unset alike.
RC on vi/settings.json — leftover English model: now mô hình, matching the adjacent description line and all other locales.
Pre-merge "Regression Evidence" warning — visible webview surface now has a durable Playwright baseline: webview-ui/src/components/settings/__tests__/ExperimentalSettings.visual.tsx (+ fixture, registered in playwright/gallery/stories.tsx), one representative snapshot per screen across all four themes, with the Docker-generated baselines committed below, per webview-ui/AGENTS.md.
Re-review RC on ClineProvider.spec.ts (posted against head 9d1f45119) — the unset-case test asserted only toEqual(experimentDefault); it now pins the contract default explicitly (expect(state.experiments).toEqual({ ...experimentDefault, dynamicThinkingEffort: false })), matching the true/false round-trip assertions and proving the exact false value the test name promises.

The extension entry of scripts/stryker-diff.mjs runs the gate in the vitest plugin's
related-discovery mode (vitestRelated: true, discoverRelatedTests: false, so STRYKER_TEST_FILES stays empty) instead of the default explicit-test-file mode. That mode
is already on main (scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:69-70 at a15ba8c8a), and this PR no
longer touches scripts/stryker-diff.mjs or scripts/stryker-diff.test.mjs: the previous
head carried comment-only rewrites of those two files, which were reverted out of the PR in 389813de6 after review (both files are restored to the merge base there and resolve to
main's versions after the a15ba8c8a merge). The note below records why main is configured
this way, because this unit's gate run depends on that configuration.
Why: with @stryker-mutator/core@10.0.0 + @stryker-mutator/vitest-runner@10.0.0,
passing an explicit test-file list makes the mutant-test planner label static mutants

static mutants only in beforeAll — after top-level code has already been evaluated.
Result: systematic false Survived for static code — both mutants on src/shared/experiments.ts:29 (BooleanLiteral→true, ObjectLiteral→{}) survived
despite shared/__tests__/experiments.spec.ts asserting the exact replaced values.
With no test-file list the planner plans 'static' activation, the same mutants are Killed (91 related test files executed; killed by the spec's experimentConfigsMap.DYNAMIC_THINKING_EFFORT assertion), and the gate is green
(verified locally on stock 10.0.0, no patched modules).
Revert condition: once the upstream fix lands and the Stryker version is bumped, the extension entry can revert to vitestRelated: false / discoverRelatedTests: true — the
faster, narrowly targeted mode that the webview entry on main already uses
(scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:54-55 at a15ba8c8a); switching both entries in that same
follow-up is the intent.
Local-run note: an interrupted local gate run can leak Stryker's temp sandbox (<package>/.stryker-tmp/), which the pre-commit hook's full pnpm lint then flags with spurious errors (cleanup is skipped on hard kills despite cleanTempDir: "always"); clean runs remove it. Tracked in #1514.
Updated this round (main refresh): merged upstream main (API-lease infra head) into this branch. One conflict: the spec file's foot, where this branch's experiments suite and main's profile-model suite were both appended - kept both blocks. A duplicated blank line the auto-merge left in the provider spec was removed in a follow-up commit. Typecheck, the two affected suites (332 tests), ESLint max-warnings=0 and Prettier clean on the resolved files.

Merged upstream maina15ba8c8a (a34589932) — clean merge, zero conflicts. The unit
needs this refresh: main mounts the real @vscode/webview-ui-toolkit in the Playwright
gallery (the toolkit mock is gone) and AppProviders no longer pre-loads translations, so
this unit's four baselines had been measured against the pre-refresh rendering (CI rendered
488×589 against 488×543 committed).
Regenerated the four experimental-settings-*.png baselines inside the pinned CI image
(dadac9270): reproduced the failure first (identical pixel counts to CI's log — 37618 /
16638 / 40967 / 16740 for dark / light / high-contrast / high-contrast-light), then test:visual:docker:update scoped with --grep 'renders the experimental settings section' --update-snapshots, which rewrote exactly those four files (sha256 of every other __screenshots__/*.png identical before and after), then re-ran the four tests unmodified → Running 4 tests using 4 workers ... 4 passed. All four measure 488x589; nothing was
hand-edited.

toolkit mock is gone), so the story is 46 px taller and CI's required
webview-visual check failed all four themes.

301c1c5, which is the evidence that this container reproduces the CI rendering.
Then regenerated with test:visual:docker:update scoped to the story (--grep
"renders the experimental settings" --update-snapshots), which re-wrote exactly
these four files: sha256 of every other __screenshots__/*.png is identical before
and after. All four are 488x589, matching the measured CI height; no dimensions
were hand-edited.
All three review threads are addressed, replied to and resolved.
scripts/stryker-diff.mjs + scripts/stryker-diff.test.mjs are out of the PR (389813de6 restores both to the merge base; after the main merge they resolve to main's copies, so git diff a15ba8c8a HEAD -- scripts/ is empty). main already runs the extension entry in related-discovery mode (vitestRelated: true / discoverRelatedTests: false, scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:69-70), so the "switches the entry" wording in the Mutation gate note was wrong — the body now says the mode is already on main and keeps the upstream-defect explanation as context for why main is configured that way.
The four experimental-settings-*.png baselines are regenerated inside the image visual-regression.yml pins (mcr.microsoft.com/playwright:v1.64.1-noble@sha256:47b510dd9…, chromium build 1248) — the body previously claimed v1.62.1, which is also corrected. Reproduced first on a tree identical to the merge ref (Expected an image 488px by 543px, received 488px by 589px, 37618 / 16638 / 40967 / 16740 differing pixels for dark / light / high-contrast / high-contrast-light — the same counts CI logged for 301c1c5a1), then regenerated with test:visual:docker:update scoped by --grep 'renders the experimental settings section' --update-snapshots. Exactly those four files changed: sha256 of every other __screenshots__/*.png is identical before and after. Re-ran the four tests unmodified in the same image → Running 4 tests using 4 workers … 4 passed, and CI's webview-visual is green on dadac9270. Nothing was hand-edited.
Merged upstream maina15ba8c8a (a34589932), clean. Standalone diff is now 33 files (29 text + 4 binary baselines), 379 additions + 2 deletions = 381 lines, still inside the 400 budget.
Re-verified locally on the merged head: pnpm check-types 11/11, vitest 3/3 (packages/types) + 138/138 (webviewMessageHandler.spec.ts, experiments.spec.ts) + 43/43 (ExperimentalSettings.spec.tsx, SettingsView.spec.tsx), ESLint --max-warnings=0 clean in src, packages/types and webview-ui with src/eslint-suppressions.json byte-identical, Prettier clean, translation scan clean across 18 locales.
State check for the maintainers holding the changes-requested (edelauna, 04:34:36Z): all three review threads on this PR are answered in-thread and resolved, and every check is green at dadac9270 - the six hard-required lanes (check-translations, platform-unit-test ubuntu + windows, compile, knip, e2e-mock, webview-visual) plus mutation-diff, extension-host-visual, theme-fixtures, invisible-chars, dependency-review and Build test VSIX.
