SparkMap

Overview

This project is designed to provide tools and resources for working with electricity. This program is a map that focuses on the consumption of electricity in each building at Batangas State University and The National Engineering University – Alangilan Campus. Through a prototype, it will execute features such as:

Electrical unit conversion: It will allow users to convert various units of electrical measurement such as volts, amps, watts, ohms, and more. Calculations: It will provide calculators for various electrical calculations such as voltage drop, power factor, and circuit analysis. Graphical representations: It will provide graphical representations of electrical data, such as voltage and current waveforms, to help users better understand their electrical systems. Historical data: it will store and display historical data, such as energy consumption and cost, to help users track their energy usage over time. Troubleshooting tool: It can determine if there is some loss of connection in electricity on a particular date and time. Educational resources: It can provide educational resources like tutorials and reference materials to help users learn more about working with electricity.

Overall, this program can be a valuable tool for anyone working with electricity, by providing them with a convenient and user-friendly way to access information and tools for working with electrical systems.

Problem & Solution

Unsustainable patterns of consumption and production are root causes of the triple planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. The inclusion of the SGD 12 –”Ensuring Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns”– recognizes the essential role to shift consumption patterns to sustain the livelihoods of present and future generations. As a part of the sustainable development movement, the project aims to mobilize economic, social and environmental actions through an electricity consumption map.

By monitoring the electricity consumption within the school parameters, certain practices can be implemented to minimize electricity waste. Through the sustainable utilization patterns, the institution can achieve efficiency and productivity gains and shape a new circular economy. On top of that, human activities can remain within the carrying capacity of the planet, while respecting the rights of the future generations.

Project Scheme

In this project, the main objective is to learn the fundamentals or the system in determining the electricity consumption of a building. We would be able to determine such information by creating a prototype. Some of the most essential parts of this prototype are the materials and the software programs that generate the overall process of this project.

Libraries: Matplotlib - Using this library would help the program in visualizing the data NumPy - This library will be used in order to store and access the data for tracking the electricity and its history. Software programs: Programming software - Visual Studio Code (IDE) will be used for this project in making the code Web-based program - We will be creating a website in order to access all the features of this project Languages: Python - This is the main programming language to be used. The backend of the program. HTML, CSS, Javascript - This is for making the website which is essentially the frontend of the program Materials: Light bulbs Electricity consumptions tracker Wires Arduino Laptop Future Plans

Power Redundancy Feature

What is Power Redundancy?

Redundant power supplies are the solution in case of power outages, cyberattacks, or technical problems. Servers fail and network outages. Redundant infrastructure units contain uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) that step in in the event of standard power failures.

The Power Redundancy feature will prevent damages in the equipment which benefits the consumer. If a power supply fails in a system with multiple units connected in parallel, a short circuit condition can occur at the output of the remaining power supply. This can put the remaining fully functional power supplies into overload or short circuit protection mode, disabling the entire system. For this reason, the power redundancy feature is of great benefit.

Power Optimization Feature

What is Power Optimization?

The optimizer constantly monitors array voltages and currents to mitigate the effects of mismatches, allowing each module to operate at its maximum power level. This leads to optimal energy harvest. “Higher Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) resolution, or granularity, helps the system recover more energy that could otherwise be lost due to electrical imbalance caused by the environmental mismatch. It leads to higher energy production.”

Efficiency Innovation

The project aims to include a more specific electricity consumption map that looks further into floor levels of each building or even rooms. This will help the authorities easily locate where the excessive energy consumption comes from. Through this feature, the teachers and students will be informed to minimize the usage of energy.
