fix(core): keep inline math source popups closed in read-only editors - #3293
Subscribe inline source popup tracking to the editor editability event rather than adding a popup-specific ProseMirror plugin.
Keep source popups closed in read-only editors while preserving normal text selection and copying.
Close/reopen the popup when editability changes, and reconcile state after remounting.
Cover direct and batched changes, additional plugin restrictions, and diagram preview interactions. Diagram blocks already honor read-only mode and need no production change.
Only the popup implementation and its regressions are included in this stacked diff; the editability API (acquireEditingLock, isEditable, and onEditableChange), extension removal, and event documentation are in #3303.
Validation
Base branch alone: 167 core tests passed (11 files).
Combined stack after syncing the editing-lock API update: 169 core tests passed (11 files).
Post-split Docker suite: 39 tests passed across Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit (12 file/browser instances, no retries), before the subsequent editing-lock API update.
Type-aware lint: 13 touched TypeScript files, zero warnings/errors.
Formatting, commit checks, and git diff --check pass.
Regression cases were verified red-first during implementation.
The extension updates inline preview selection when editor editability or selection changes. It selects preview content only when the editor is editable and the selected node declares preview metadata. New browser tests cover diagram and inline math popup behavior.
A ProseMirror plugin view updates preview selection when editability or selection changes. It clears the selection when the editor is not editable or the selected node lacks preview metadata. The mount-time selection subscription is removed.
Browser tests check diagram and inline math popup behavior across editable and read-only states, including changes to editability and a disabled read-only extension.
The read-only popup behavior is corrected. A narrow programmatic math-replacement case can still leave the source popup open after the cursor exits it; this is bounded and suitable for a focused fix or follow-up.

Explanation
Issue #3291 requires that clicking inline math in a read-only editor does not open its source popup, while the ProseMirror selection still moves. At the reviewed head, SourceInlineContentWithPreviewExtension sets store selected only when view.editable is true and the selection node declares meta.hasPreview. The new plugin view.update also clears selected when editability changes. The previous editor.onSelectionChange subscription in mount is removed, so the popup no longer depends on selection alone. The sourcePopup.browser.test.tsx matrix in packages/math-block checks, for read-only editors, that the selection moves to sourcePos, that selected is undefined, and that data-open is "false". It also covers batched and unbatched editability toggles and a ProseMirror plugin editable: false case. The same file checks that tracking mounts without the readOnly extension. The change still implements the issue requirement after the change from selection subscription to plugin view update. The diagram test covers related popup behavior and does not change the requirement result. No coding requirement from #3291 is unmet. The PR description reports a Docker browser run of 27 tests, but this assessment does not rerun tests and relies on the source and test code.

Explanation
The whole-PR diff from merge base a04d254 to head d207071 changes three files. The production change in SourceInlineContentWithPreview.ts implements #3291 directly. It replaces the selection subscription with a plugin view update that reads effective editability. It also updates comments that describe the popup state. The math browser test covers #3291 directly. The diagram browser test covers related popup behavior that the PR description states and does not change diagram production code. The import of Plugin and the comment changes support the production change. No unrelated production change is shown. Test-only coverage for the diagram block is a legitimate supporting change for the same popup behavior.

Clear the stored source selection when the editor becomes read-only.
102-105: Minor · Functional Correctness · Poor tradeoff
Clear the stored source selection when the editor becomes read-only.
Switching the editor to read-only does not clear selected in SourceInlineContentWithPreviewExtension. The popup hook derives isOpen only from that stored selection. Source and OK button can therefore remain visible in read-only mode when the cursor is inside an inline math source at the moment of the switch.
Clear selected when editability changes to read-only. Alternatively, make the popup open state depend on editability. The popup hook does not read editability for isOpen today, and that alternative may need a re-render trigger for imperative isEditable changes.
This path predates the change. The PR limits new read-only selection opens, but it leaves an existing selection in place when the editor switches to read-only.

121-123: Minor · Functional Correctness · Poor tradeoff
Store-driven updates can set the inline source popup state open in a view that a plugin keeps non-editable.
A plugin can return false from its editable ProseMirror prop. The view then stays non-editable while the ReadOnly store reports editable. This subscription derives selected from the store state alone. When the selection is inside inline source, the popup state becomes open (isOpen follows selected, and data-open follows isOpen). The selection-change path reads editor.isEditable and does not have this gap.
The subscription must still set selected inside the batched editor.transact used for store-driven re-enable. A direct view-editability check at this point can read the value from before that transaction. Any fix must keep the batched re-enable case working.

Update the store-driven `updateSelected` logic so it also respects the
ProseMirror view’s effective editability when deriving the selected state,
preventing the popup from opening while a plugin keeps the view non-editable.
Preserve selection updates inside the batched `editor.transact` re-enable flow;
establish an editability check that observes the transaction’s resulting state
rather than relying on a stale pre-transaction view value.
Cover inline math tracking when readOnly is disabled.
Cover inline math tracking when readOnly is disabled.
The test mounts inline source popup tracking without the readOnly extension uses the default schema and an empty editor. Its only assertion is that selected is undefined. That result holds whether or not tracking works, so a regression in tracking for editors without the readOnly extension would pass this suite. The mount assertion still catches a crash on mount.
Create the editor with the module-level schema and a math node, then move the selection into the math source and assert that selected equals the math position.

Strengthen the test “mounts inline source popup tracking without the readOnly
extension”: create the editor with the module-level schema, disable the readOnly
extension, and include a math node in its initial content. Move the selection
into the math source and assert that the SourceInlineContentWithPreviewExtension
store’s selected position matches the math position, rather than only asserting
it is undefined.

Initialize selected from the editor's starting selection.
SourceInlineContentWithPreview.ts computes selected only in the plugin's update callback, and update returns early when the selection is unchanged. The store starts with selected: undefined, and the plugin view callback does not compute it.
When autofocus is a numeric position inside a math source, Tiptap creates the initial state with that selection. The deferred focus call resolves to an equal selection and skips setSelection. As a result, selected remains undefined after mount, and the source popup stays closed until the selection or editability changes.
Initialize selected from the editor's starting selection at a lifecycle point where the store subscribers are attached. Reuse the logic in update.
Add a regression test in sourcePopup.browser.test.tsx. Create the editor with autofocus set to a position inside the math source, mount it, wait for the focus timeout, and assert that store.state.selected equals the math position. The current test dispatches the selection after editor.mount, so it does not cover this case.

Initialize selected from the editor’s starting selection in
SourceInlineContentWithPreview at a lifecycle point after store subscribers are
attached, reusing the selection logic from the plugin’s update callback. Add a
regression case in sourcePopup.browser.test.tsx that creates and mounts the
editor with autofocus inside the math source, waits for the focus timeout, and
verifies store.state.selected is the math position without dispatching a
selection afterward.
Cover keyed read-only toggles while the cursor stays in inline math.
Cover keyed read-only toggles while the cursor stays in inline math.
The source popup matrix sets pluginReadOnly before the editor is created. The isEditable toggles do not call the keyed restriction API. No case calls setReadOnly with a key while the selection remains on the math source. Loading and Versioning call that path during normal use, and the cursor can remain in math. A regression that affects only keyed restrictions would pass these popup tests. This is a coverage gap, not a current failure.
Add a case that keeps the selection on the math source position and checks the popup state after each step:
Set a keyed restriction on. Assert that store.state.selected is undefined and that the data-open attribute is "false".
Release that keyed restriction with the same selection. Assert that store.state.selected is the math position and that data-open is "true".

Add a source-popup test using the keyed read-only restriction API while keeping
the selection on the math source position. After setting a keyed restriction,
assert that store.state.selected is undefined and data-open is false; release
the restriction with the same key and selection, then assert that the math
position is selected and data-open is true.
Recompute the source popup state when the document changes.
The early return in the plugin view skips recomputation when the selection coordinates match, even if the document changed. If a transaction replaces the whole math node with a same-type preview node whose size equals the cursor offset, selected keeps the old position and the popup stays open after the cursor leaves the source. Add a document identity check to the early return.

Review the replacement and indentation, then test before committing.
