- Throw the non-OK response error with a numeric `status` field - Keep the error message as it was - Match the `status` field that SDK errors and toRunErrorPayload already use - Assert `status` and the full message in the 401, 422 and 429 tests - Add a minor changeset for @tanstack/ai-typesafe
- Add a "Handle a failed request" section to the TypeSafe adapter page - Refresh the page's updatedAt in docs/config.json
…Vercel Gateway evaluate requests - Throw the non-OK response error with a numeric `status`, the same as the TypeSafe adapter - Keep each error message unchanged - Document the thrown `status` with a JSDoc `@throws` line on the Ollaya adapter - Assert `status` and the full message in each adapter's non-OK test - Extend the changeset to all four evaluate adapters
- Add a "Handle a failed request" section to the Ollaya adapter page - Add a failed-request note to the Evaluate sections of the OpenRouter and Vercel Gateway pages - Refresh updatedAt for the Ollaya and Vercel Gateway pages in docs/config.json
- Add an aimock mount that answers an evaluate request with the HTTP status named in its x-evaluate-http-status header - Mount it at /evaluate-http-status for TypeSafe and at /v4/ai/evaluation-model for Vercel Gateway, which keeps only the origin of its baseURL - Add the /api/evaluate-http-status route, which runs decide() and returns the error name, message and status as JSON - Assert that decide() rejects with status 429 for TypeSafe and 503 for Vercel Gateway and an unchanged message - Add @tanstack/ai-typesafe to the e2e app dependencies

Do not swallow non-429 failures in this copyable example.
This documentation example catches every decide() failure but handles only status 429. If a caller copies this pattern, invalid credentials, server errors, and network failures can exit the handler without an error response. Re-throw non-429 errors or return an explicit error response.

When TypeSafe, Ollaya, OpenRouter or Vercel Gateway answer an evaluate request with an error response, the adapter throws a plain
Errorwith the status code only inside the message text. A caller ofdecide()that wants to retry a 429 but not a 401 has to parse the message. This PR puts the status code on the error as a numericstatusfield. The message does not change.🎯 Changes
@tanstack/ai-typesafe,@tanstack/ai-ollaya,@tanstack/ai-openrouter,@tanstack/ai-vercel-gateway) now throwObject.assign(new Error(message), { status: response.status })on a non-OK response. One expression per adapter, no new class, no new export.statusis the field the rest of the repo already reads. Provider SDK errors carry a numericstatus,extractCodeinpackages/ai/src/activities/error-payload.tsturns it into thecodeonRUN_ERROR, and the BytePlus video adapter sets it by hand on its fetch errors. The OpenAI evaluate adapter rethrows the SDK error, which already has it. After this PR every evaluate adapter that talks HTTP agrees.runModelhelper, which every Cloudflare activity uses, so that change belongs in its own PR.statusand the full message withtoMatchObject, instead oftoThrow('429'). They fail on main becausestatusisundefinedthere.testing/e2e/tests/evaluate-http-status.spec.tsrunsdecide()against an aimock mount that answers with the status named in anx-evaluate-http-statusrequest header. It covers TypeSafe (429) and Vercel Gateway (503) through a new/api/evaluate-http-statusroute in the E2E app and asserts the error name, message andstatus. It fails on main and passes here. The E2E app gains an@tanstack/ai-typesafeworkspace dependency. Ollaya has no E2E case because its adapter is the same shape as TypeSafe's and would need one more dependency. OpenRouter has no E2E case because its decisions URL is a constant with nobaseURLoption, so it cannot be pointed at aimock. Both are covered by the unit tests.updatedAtbumped indocs/config.json. A@throwsline on the TypeSafe and Ollayaevaluate()JSDoc.✅ Checklist

Public API change
Before, the only way to branch on the status was the message:
After:
Testing
Commands run. All with
--skip-nx-cache.pnpm test:pr: exit 0.pnpm test:e2eforevaluate-http-status.spec.ts: both cases pass.Manual test.
statusalone, because the message assertion still matches. That shows the message did not move.evaluate-http-status.spec.tswith this branch's aimock mount and route. Both cases fail withstatus: undefinedin the returned error. How this PR makes testing easy. The unit tests pin
statusand the exact message for every adapter. The E2E spec goes throughdecide()end to end, so it also proves core passes the adapter error through untouched. The aimock mount answers only requests that carry thex-evaluate-http-statusheader and falls through otherwise, so it does not interfere with other specs.Risk / rollback
Low. The thrown value is still an
Errorwith the same message, so existing message matching keeps working. The only new behaviour is an extra numeric field on the error. One side effect: the OpenRouter and Vercel Gateway adapters log throughtoRunErrorPayload, andextractCodereadsstatus, so thecodein their fatal log entries becomes the status string (for example'429') instead ofundefined. That is the samecodethe SDK-backed adapters already log. TypeSafe and Ollaya log the raw error, so their entries only gain the field.Rollback: revert the PR.
