University of Southampton Thesis

This is a modification of the Eisvogel Pandoc LaTeX Template. It aims to create a usable template to work with Quarto in the production of a thesis. My thanks to the original authors for their excellent template and keeping it up to date through pandoc revisions.

Modifications

The main modifications have been related to the title page and header. A number of new variables are added to support this and the logo position has been moved on the title page.

  • assignment used on the title page to describe the assignment, appears below logo
  • supervisor will appear next to "primary supervisor"
  • title-short Used in the header (useful with long titles)

The header and footer section was also modified with the footnote and hyperfootnote support for longtable removed as this was conflicting with Quarto. I have not used footnotes and cannot confirm what effect this might have.

Usage

This repo contains the release.sh script which will build the single latex and beamer templates and place them in a released folder along with zip/tar versions. If you just want a working template they are in the releases folder.

I have used this template with a university logo (logo-width: '100mm'). I have customised the titlepage-rule-color to match the titlepage-background which again I modified to match university branding. This can be done relatively easily in photo editing software.

This has been tested as working using Quarto v1.6.40. I have used the book format for the thesis to good effect.

Warning

Pandoc, which this template and quarto both rely on, does change it's template requirements over time and I have experienced several breaking changes over the years. The original authors have worked quickly to fix these
