[Submit API]: REST Countries — Free RESTful World Countries & Currencies API #24
I would like to work on this issue @divyanshujethi , @Ritual-Dev-Git
But i have some doubts.
1: do i have to add this api in the shelf itself as i did previously with dog api?
2: and if the details of this api that you have mentioned here isn't matching , then what's the next step?
I checked the current REST Countries API (v5) documentation and found that some of the submitted details appear to be outdated:
The current API requires an API key for its endpoints.
The free plan is limited to 1,000 requests/month, rather than unlimited requests.
Browser requests require an API key with the requesting origin configured, so it does not have full unrestricted CORS.
It looks like the submission may be based on the older v1–v4 API, which was unauthenticated and is now deprecated. Should I leave this submission as-is for maintainer review, or should I update/reject the entry based on the current v5 API? @divyanshujethi@Ritual-Dev-Git
Thank you for flagging this! You are completely right:
v5 Migration:restcountries.com transitioned to v5, deprecating the legacy open v1–v4 endpoints and establishing a required Free API Key along with a 1,000 req/month quota on the free tier.
Existing Entry: REST Countries is already indexed on DevShelf (restcountries.com). Rather than creating a duplicate entry, we have updated our existing listing to reflect the current v5 specifications:
Auth:Free API Key
Rate Limit:1,000 req/mo
CORS:Yes
Tags:No Card Required, CI Verified, Rate-Limited
Since the existing listing has now been updated on main (commit 2cab84b), we will close this submission as resolved/duplicate.
Thank you for helping maintain DevShelf's verified live status and data accuracy! 🚀
