With the Pro-Board 433 Variant the same hardware could support LoRa-APRS
(amateur radio APRS-over-LoRa, e.g. compatible with the LoRa_APRS_Tracker /
LoRa_APRS_iGate ecosystem), giving riders a standard, internationally
recognized amateur-radio tracking beacon in addition
APRS has an established, worldwide iGate/digipeater infrastructure (aprs.fi, APRS-IS)
Proposed scope:
- Send periodic position beacons (SmartBeacon-style: interval scales with
speed/course change, like the mesh position broadcast already does)
- Encode standard APRS position packets (Base91-compressed lat/lon, course,
speed, symbol) compatible with LoRa-APRS iGates (OE5BPA-style: 433.775 MHz,
SF12/BW125/CR4-5, sync word 0x12)
- Optionally receive/display nearby APRS stations (heard list, similar to the
mesh neighbour list)
This would require the 433 MHz SX1262 variant specifically
It would be great so see this feature implemented. Happy to test with my device
