Summary

Slide 21, "What PolicyEngine calculates beyond TAXSIM":

  • Additional state tax credits: four chips, id_aged_or_disabled_credit, ar_personal_credit_disabled_dependent, ny_college_tuition_credit and co_care_worker_credit. Note: "Zero without inputs TAXSIM lacks, such as disability status, tuition or care work. Renters' credits use rentpaid." TAXSIM models neither the Idaho nor the Arkansas credit (13id.for, 04ar.for).
  • Federal provisions: add overtime_income_deduction next to tip_income_deduction and american_opportunity_credit.
  • Speaker notes:
    • Other state credits that need inputs TAXSIM lacks.
    • The Maryland child tax credit, which TAXSIM models only for children under 6 from 2023 (21md.for).
    • Renters' credits, which TAXSIM models from rentpaid in many states. PolicyEngine adds the parts that need other inputs, such as disability status in Minnesota and county limits in Vermont.
  • Layout: the taller cards fit at every size. The output slide scales down slightly on mid-height screens, and slide 19 is unchanged.

Checks

  • Slide 21 fits at 1024×768, 1280×720, 1366×768, 1440×900 and 1920×1080. Slide 19 is unchanged.
  • bunx eslint slideshows/bls-taxsim-2026, 126 vitest tests and bun run build pass locally.

The "Additional state tax credits" card now shows two credits that
TAXSIM does not model at all, because they need a disability input:
id_aged_or_disabled_credit (TAXSIM's Idaho routine has no such credit)
and ar_personal_credit_disabled_dependent ($500 per dependent with a
disability; TAXSIM's Arkansas personal credit has no disability input).
The speaker notes list the other state credits that need inputs TAXSIM
lacks, and explain the Maryland child tax credit, which TAXSIM models
only in part.

Request Review

- Additional state tax credits: keep the New York college tuition and
Colorado care worker credits next to the Idaho and Arkansas
disability-based credits; the note names disability status, tuition
  and care work.
- Federal provisions: add overtime_income_deduction next to the tips
  deduction.
- Notes: renters' credits are modeled by TAXSIM from rentpaid in many
states; PolicyEngine adds the parts that need other inputs.
- The output slide scales down a little on mid-height screens so the
taller cards fit; slide 19 is unchanged.
