Summary

Sets TOOL_ACTIVATION_CACHE_MAX_NAMES and TOOL_ACTIVATION_CACHE_MAX_SCHEMA_BYTES (crates/tui/src/core/session.rs) to usize::MAX / 2 — an effectively-unbounded sentinel: comparisons against the exact usize::MAX extreme trip clippy's deny-by-default absurd_extreme_comparisons (and rustc's unused_comparisons), so the literal extreme cannot serve as the bound and any slightly smaller value compiles — so the bounded-toolbox LRU eviction never fires. This is a Pinvou fork-only decision, registered in the parent repo's fork register in the companion PR (Pinvou/pinvou-agent#694).

Why

Under 2026-10 provider prompt-cache pricing, every eviction mutates the request tools array and re-prefills system + tools + the entire conversation history at miss price (write premiums up to 2x: Anthropic 1.25x/2x, Kimi k3 1x/2x, GPT-5.6+ 1.25x), to stop paying ~0.1x on a few hundred tokens of schema. Break-even for one eviction needs ~75 further tool-free requests; the full eviction → notify → re-search → re-activate cycle costs ~2.5x the whole history. The live incident class: a strong model fabricated tool results for browser tools silently evicted mid-task. Full analysis and the alternative approaches (hysteresis, cost terms, Moonshot's append-in-context injection) are filed upstream at codewhale-hq#6969; this fork cut the mechanism off pending that discussion.

Sequencing with #101

Both this PR and #101 address the same incident class from the two sides: #101 reports every toolbox eviction to the model; this PR removes the size-eviction cause entirely. They touch the same six files from the same base blobs, so they conflict textually in either merge order. Intended sequencing: this PR lands first (smaller, and pins the posture the reporting must build on); #101 then rebases — its catalog-shrink reporting remains fully relevant, while its size-eviction reporting channels become dead-in-fork code (the bounds can no longer fire) and can be dropped or kept for upstream parity at #101's discretion.

What is preserved

  • Admission bookkeeping and ordering, recency touches, hydration receipts: unchanged.
  • Catalog-shrink revalidation: unchanged — a disconnected MCP server, deny rule, mode switch, eager promotion, or session sync still drops entries exactly as upstream. Only the size bounds never fire.
  • [tools].always_load semantics: unchanged.

Changes

  • Constants → usize::MAX / 2 with a doc comment stating the fork posture, the economics, and why the sentinel value rather than the literal extreme.
  • The tool_search oversize rejection reason claims no bound and interpolates no numbers: in this fork the arm is dead except for the per-entry serde-failure sentinel (discovery pre-filters deferred membership), so the prose states the schema could not be measured for admission.
  • The subagent hydration error no longer claims a bounded toolbox or misadvises a narrower query.
  • docs/TOOL_SURFACE.md toolbox sections state the fork divergence truthfully: the sentinel value, the unbounded-growth tradeoff (the activated set is now the only clamp on the request tools array; very large activations can approach provider request-size or tool-count limits), and the parent-conversation wording.
  • Tests rewritten for the disabled posture (upstream tests pinned the eviction semantics): activation above the historical bounds retains everything (forkguard_deferred_toolbox_bounds_are_disabled, fixtures grown past both historical bounds so a byte-bound-only revert fails too), oversized schemas are admitted (forkguard_oversized_schema_is_admitted_while_the_bounds_are_disabled), the recency touch reorders without displacing (forkguard_touching_a_cached_tool_moves_it_to_the_back_and_evicts_nothing), cached execution retains all activations (forkguard_cached_execution_keeps_every_activation_without_granting_uncached_names), and the subagent surface test — which still pinned upstream's 8-name/16KiB eviction and ran red on CI — is rewritten as forkguard_small_surface_caches_are_independent_unbounded_and_revalidated with 2 KiB schemas so a revert of either historical bound fails it.
  • Round-2 review follow-ups (comment 5502767570): the activate/revalidate/execute_tool_search_with_cache doc comments state the fork posture instead of upstream's dead rejection/eviction behavior, the constants doc scopes rustc's unused_comparisons to the numeric-literal form (it does not fire through a const item), and TOOL_SURFACE.md drops the implementation literal and discloses the bookkeeping growth.

Validation

  • cargo test -p codewhale-tui --lib with RUST_MIN_STACK=33554432 (locally raised; CI runs its suites at 16 MiB, and without a raised stack the tools::subagent filter aborts locally): 12091 passed / 0 failed at fd14b6a7e, including the rewritten subagent suite.
  • cargo test --lib -- core::session core::engine::tool_catalog: 23 passed / 0 failed; cargo test --lib -- core::engine::tests: 404 passed / 0 failed (407 with --all-features) — re-run at fd14b6a7e.
  • cargo clippy --lib -- -D warnings: clean. cargo fmt --all -- --check: clean.
  • Correction to an earlier validation note: the first commit attributed a full-suite tools::subagent failure to a pre-existing local environment abort. That was wrong in effect. The filter aborts locally without a raised stack (CI runs its suites at 16 MiB); with RUST_MIN_STACK=33554432 the suite completes and exposed a real failure — small_surface_caches_are_independent_bounded_and_revalidated still pinned upstream's 8-name/16KiB eviction, CI was red on it, and it is rewritten in the second commit (196bed7fa).

No-Issue: fork-level economics decision; the upstream analysis lives at codewhale-hq#6969.

Upstream bounds the conversation toolbox to 8 names / 16 KiB with silent
LRU eviction. Under provider prompt-cache pricing every eviction mutates
the request tools array, which re-prefills the system + tools + entire
conversation history at miss price (plus the new 1.25x-2x cache-write
premiums on Anthropic, Kimi k3, and GPT-5.6+), to stop paying ~0.1x on a
few hundred tokens of schema: a mid-task eviction costs ~75+ tool-free
requests to break even and completes an eviction -> notify -> re-search
-> re-activate cycle worth ~2.5x the whole history. The live failure was
a model fabricating tool results for tools that had silently vanished
mid-task. Full analysis: codewhale-hq#6969.

This fork sets TOOL_ACTIVATION_CACHE_MAX_NAMES and
TOOL_ACTIVATION_CACHE_MAX_SCHEMA_BYTES to usize::MAX, keeping upstream's
admission bookkeeping and catalog-shrink revalidation (disconnect, deny
rule, mode switch, eager promotion, session sync) exactly as-is; only the
size bounds never fire. The search-result oversize reason is now derived
from the constants so the prose cannot disagree with them.

Tests rewritten for the disabled posture (upstream tests pinned the
eviction semantics): activation above the historical bounds retains
everything, oversized schemas are admitted, the recency touch reorders
without displacing, and a forkguard pin locks the disabled posture.
docs/TOOL_SURFACE.md states the fork divergence.

Pinvou/CodeWhale#104 disables the conversation-toolbox size bounds
(TOOL_ACTIVATION_CACHE_MAX_NAMES / MAX_SCHEMA_BYTES to usize::MAX / 2):
under provider prompt-cache pricing, LRU eviction re-prefilled the full
prefix at miss price plus write premiums to save ~0.1x on a few hundred
schema tokens, and the live failure class was a model fabricating results
for tools silently evicted mid-task. Admission bookkeeping and
catalog-shrink revalidation stay as upstream. Economics and the
alternative designs are filed at codewhale-hq/Codewhale#6969.

Register updates in the same PR: fork-guard EXPECTED_HEAD/EXPECTED_COMMITS
(63), a T2 fingerprint pinning forkguard_deferred_toolbox_bounds_are_disabled,
and the fork-modifications T2 entry. ./scripts/fork-guard.sh --fast passes.

Fresh review — requesting changes (1 blocker, 3 majors, minors)

Reviewed from scratch at head a7f64b5c4 (base 3118c36b8 = current pinvou3-clean tip — no rebase needed, MERGEABLE). Lanes: activation-machinery audit, tool_search-path audit, repo-wide stale-reference sweep, fork-governance/companion audit, design review, upstream-parity check, plus local gate execution (tests, clippy, fmt, and a red-green of the value-choice claim).

The core change is sound and the rationale checks out. Verified: the two constants are used only in pure comparisons with saturating_add aggregation — overflow-safe at usize::MAX/2; every policy-driven removal path (revalidate on disconnect/deny/mode-switch/eager, session-sync clear, hydration receipts, always_load bypass) is byte-identical to base; no second bound exists that still fires; the request tools array is built in catalog order, so nothing downstream depends on cache size or recency order. The red-green on the value choice is real: at usize::MAX, clippy denies with absurd_extreme_comparisons (deny-by-default, 5 errors); MAX/2 compiles clean. Upstream issue codewhale-hq#6969 exists at the correct venue, matches every number the body quotes, and does not contradict the fork route. Upstream has not touched the bounds mechanism itself (still 8/16KiB at 008d21d69).

BLOCKER

B1. CI is red: an upstream-semantics test this PR missed. tools::subagent::tests::small_surface_caches_are_independent_bounded_and_revalidated (crates/tui/src/tools/subagent/tests.rs:7599) still pins the old 8-name/16KiB posture and fails deterministically at head — confirmed on CI (check job 115210635261 → failed; gate → failed) and reproduced locally: 582 passed; 1 failed, panic at tests.rs:7611 (assert!(!first_names.contains("deferred_0")) — nine warm names no longer evict). Two further assertions behind it are now inverted too: hydrate("oversized", 17KiB).is_err() (line 7620) and the 3×6KiB byte-budget eviction (lines 7627–7633). The session.rs and tool_catalog tests were rewritten; this sibling file pinning the same semantics was missed. This also conflicts with fork-policy §3.4 (upstream tests invalidated by fork semantics must be rewritten or explicitly annotated, not left red). Merge-blocking under branch protection (check + gate required).

MAJOR

M1. The Validation claim that hides B1 is false in effect. Both bodies attribute the tools::subagent failure to a "pre-existing local environment abort … identically on pristine pinvou3-clean … not touched by this change (no subagent file is modified)." The test compiles, runs in isolation (0.07s), and fails on semantics introduced by this change. With RUST_MIN_STACK=33554432 the whole filter completes locally and reports exactly this one failure; CI's runner (which sets the same stack) shows the same. A local stack-overflow abort at most masked the failure — it does not make the claim true. "No subagent file is modified" is the wrong scope test: the PR modified the behavior that module asserts. Please correct the PR body and fix the test (the commit body is immutable).

M2. Head-on collision with open sibling PR #101 — the other fix for the same incident. #101 carries the eviction-reporting apparatus and touches all four files this PR touches, from the same base blobs (session.rs e654eb8b3): the same struct doc, the same oversize-prose line in execute_tool_search_inner, the same TOOL_SURFACE.md paragraph — guaranteed textual conflicts in either merge order. Semantically, merging #104 first turns most of #101's size-eviction reporting channels into dead-in-fork code (its catalog-shrink reporting remains fully relevant — #101 is not mooted). Neither PR references the other; only codewhale-hq#6969 ties them. Please state the intended sequencing and what survives of #101 in both PR descriptions, and expect a non-trivial rebase on whichever lands second.

M3. The fork register misstates the value it registers. docs/fork-modifications.md (companion PR codewhale-hq#694, T2 entry) and the CW commit body say the constants are set to usize::MAX; the code is usize::MAX / 2 (session.rs:32,37). The register is the single source of truth under AGENTS.md; codewhale-hq#694's own PR body states MAX/2 correctly — the register text must too.

MINOR

  • m1. Value narrative overclaims (session.rs:28-31): "the largest the engine accepts" is false (usize::MAX - 1 also compiles clean — the lints reject only comparisons against the exact usize::MAX extreme) and "one ULP below arithmetic reach" is false (MAX/2 is 2⁶³ below). Suggest: "MAX is lint-rejected; MAX/2 is an effectively-unbounded sentinel."
  • m2. The comment at tool_catalog.rs:1387-1390 inverts the reachability story. delta.rejected on this path has exactly two causes in activate: not-a-deferred-member — structurally impossible here, since both discovery functions pre-filter deferred membership (tool_catalog.rs:783,809) and pass the same catalog slice to activate — and per-entry oversize, including the serde-failure usize::MAX sentinel (session.rs:78-80). So the arm is unreachable outright; there are no "other causes" — and in the sentinel case the model would see "…(9223372036854775807 cached tools, 9007199254740991KiB…)". Keep the prose qualitative or fix the comment; also move the format! into the rejection closure (it currently allocates on every tool_search call).
  • m3. Stale model-facing string in the child surface: tools/subagent/mod.rs:14161 "could not enter the bounded child toolbox; use tool_search with a narrower query" — the child toolbox is no longer bounded, and the remaining failure causes (membership/serde) make both the reason and the advice wrong. This repo has precedent commits specifically for aligning model-facing text with engine reality (72e98fd, 3427eb6).
  • m4. session.rs:502-507: the test comment says "the bound is usize::MAX here" (it is MAX/2) and justifies the 17 * 1024 literal as overflow-avoidance — moot, since TOOL_ACTIVATION_CACHE_MAX_SCHEMA_BYTES + 1 compiles and is the stronger boundary-adjacent assertion.
  • m5. The only remaining rejection path (serde-failure sentinel) lost its pin when oversized_schema_is_never_admitted was deleted; nothing exercises it now. Also forkguard_deferred_toolbox_bounds_are_disabled decisively over-covers the name bound (64 names) but only barely covers the byte bound (64 small schemas ≪ 16KiB), so a byte-bound-only revert would pass it — worth ≥1KiB-per-schema fixtures.
  • m6. Companion codewhale-hq#694 housekeeping: stale guard banner strings ("62 commits" → 63; "47 registered" → 48; display-only), and the register's T2 bullet cites codewhale-hq#6969 but not CW#104 (sibling bullets cite their CW PRs).
  • m7. NITs: PR body says Kimi write premium "1.25x–2x" while codewhale-hq#6969's own table gives Kimi k3 as 1x (5m) / 2x (1h); TOOL_SURFACE.md "unbounded in this fork, like the parent" reads as parent-repo but means the parent conversation — one clarifying word; forkguard_ prefix applied to only one of the four rewritten fork-posture tests (no written rule, but inconsistent within one PR).

Design notes (non-blocking)

  • The mechanism choice is right for this fork: a two-constant pin keeps upstream merge surface minimal, is trivially revertible, and matches repo idiom (pinned values + forkguard_ pins + parent register). Config knobs, deleting the machinery, or a cfg feature are all worse here.
  • Unbounded growth is a deliberate and disclosed tradeoff, but it is now the only clamp on the request tools array: no in-repo cap exists, so provider tool-count/request-size ceilings (e.g. OpenAI-family 128-tool caps) are newly reachable on MCP-heavy sessions, and codewhale-hq#6969 recommends cost-aware reform rather than none. One honest sentence about growth in TOOL_SURFACE.md (or a high soft ceiling) would close the disclosure gap — author's call.
  • Upstream is mid-iteration on this exact mechanism (priority-aware batch insertion in activate at upstream HEAD, absent from fork base), so the next sync must re-justify and re-express this divergence against evolved code. Inherent to the idiom; worth a line in the register's revisit note.

Verified claims (selection)

Claim Verdict
Size bounds never fire at MAX/2; arithmetic overflow-safe SAT
Admission bookkeeping / recency touches / receipts / always_load preserved SAT (impl byte-identical to base)
Catalog-shrink revalidation + session sync preserved SAT
Local gates: 23/0, 404/0, clippy clean, fmt clean SAT (reproduced locally)
"Tests rewritten for the disabled posture" PARTIAL — one sibling file missed (B1)
Full-suite tools::subagent failure = pre-existing environment, "not touched by this change" UNSAT as stated (M1) — one deterministic PR-caused failure
codewhale-hq#6969 supports the quoted economics SAT
Companion codewhale-hq#694: gitlink, EXPECTED_HEAD, EXPECTED_COMMITS=63 (rev-list verified), fingerprint matches test, 168 forkguard names SAT component-wise

Required before merge: fix B1 (rewrite or explicitly annotate the subagent test), correct the M1 framing in the PR body, state the M2 sequencing with #101, and fix the M3 register text in codewhale-hq#694 (plus its m6 banner strings). Everything else is the minor pass above.

No-Issue: none — this is a review comment.

Review follow-up to this PR's first commit.

- tools::subagent::tests::small_surface_caches_are_independent_bounded_
and_revalidated still pinned upstream's 8-name/16KiB eviction and ran
red on CI; rewritten as forkguard_small_surface_caches_are_independent_
unbounded_and_revalidated (2 KiB schemas so nine activations exceed
both historical bounds) and annotated per fork policy 3.4.
- Fork-posture tests renamed under the forkguard_ convention
(oversized-schema admission, cached-execution retention); the session
forkguard pin's fixtures grown to 1 KiB schemas so a byte-bound-only
  revert fails too.
- Value narrative fixed: usize::MAX / 2 is an effectively-unbounded
sentinel (only comparisons against the exact usize::MAX extreme are
lint-rejected), not "the largest the engine accepts"; the
tool_search rejection comment now states the real reachability
(per-entry size sentinel only) and the prose is built lazily; the
subagent hydration error no longer claims a bounded toolbox or
misadvises a narrower query; TOOL_SURFACE.md states the MAX / 2
value, the unbounded-growth tradeoff, and the parent-conversation
  wording.

CW#104's review fix commit rewrote the stale subagent toolbox test
(upstream-semantics pin that ran red on CI), renamed the fork-posture
tests under the forkguard_ convention, and corrected the value
narrative (usize::MAX / 2 sentinel, not usize::MAX). Carry the same
truth into the fork registration:

- gitlink/EXPECTED_HEAD -> 196bed7fa3fb834be0e9212d9e95ddb105c77209;
  EXPECTED_COMMITS 63 -> 64 (r1-since count 48 -> 49 in the register
  and guard banner).
- Register T2 entry: state the MAX / 2 sentinel value and its lint
reason (was usize::MAX), cite Pinvou/CodeWhale#104, record the
unbounded-growth tradeoff disclosure and the upstream
  priority-aware-activate() sync revisit note.
- Two new T2 fingerprints pin the constant lines themselves (precedent:
the 64 KiB write cap), closing the silent-regression band where any
bound >= 65 names / >= 17 KiB passed both the old fingerprint and the
forkguard test; register key-test list extended with the three
  renamed/new forkguard pins (forkguard name count 168 -> 171).
- Guard banner strings trued up (62 -> 64 commits, 47 -> 49 registered).

./scripts/fork-guard.sh --fast: passes (layer 0 at 196bed7fa/64,
fingerprint layer green incl. the two new constant pins, 171 forkguard
names >= 64 floor).

Fix wave pushed — head is now 196bed7fa (second commit fix(tools): rewrite stale subagent toolbox test for disabled posture). Disposition of the review findings:

B1 (red CI) — fixed. small_surface_caches_are_independent_bounded_and_revalidated rewritten as forkguard_small_surface_caches_are_independent_unbounded_and_revalidated with a §3.4 annotation; 2 KiB schemas so nine activations exceed both historical bounds (9 × ~2.1 KiB ≈ 19 KiB > 16 KiB), and the earlier assertions inverted to the disabled posture (all nine advertised, 17 KiB hydrate Ok, 3×6 KiB byte-budget retained) while keeping the independence and catalog-shrink pins.

M1 (false validation claim) — fixed. The PR body now states the truth: the filter only aborts without the stack size CI sets; with RUST_MIN_STACK=33554432 it completed and exposed the real PR-caused failure. (Commit body is immutable, so the correction lives in the PR body.)

M2 (#101 collision) — addressed. A "Sequencing with #101" section now states: this PR lands first, #101 rebases, its catalog-shrink reporting stays fully relevant, and its size-eviction reporting becomes dead-in-fork code to drop or keep at #101's discretion. Cross-note posted on #101.

M3 (register value) — fixed in companion Pinvou/pinvou-agent#694 (d5addc277): register T2 entry now says usize::MAX / 2 with the lint reason and cites this PR; guard banners trued up (64 commits / 49 registered); gitlink/EXPECTED_HEAD → 196bed7fa, EXPECTED_COMMITS → 64.

m1–m5, m7 — fixed in 196bed7fa: value narrative corrected (sentinel, not "largest the engine accepts"/"one ULP"); rejection comment rewritten to the real reachability (per-entry size sentinel only) with the format! moved lazily into the closure; subagent hydration error no longer claims a bounded toolbox; oversized-test comment sized against the historical bound; forkguard pin fixtures grown to 1 KiB schemas (byte-bound-only revert now fails); fork-posture tests renamed under the forkguard_ convention; TOOL_SURFACE.md states usize::MAX / 2, the unbounded-growth tradeoff (provider request-size/tool-count ceilings now the only clamp), and "parent conversation's".

m6 — fixed in codewhale-hq#694: banner strings, #104 citation, plus two new T2 fingerprints pinning the constant lines themselves (closing the ≥65-names/≥17 KiB silent-regression band); register key-test list extended with the three new forkguard pins.

Not done, deliberately: the serde-failure sentinel rejection path remains untested — it requires a Tool that fails serde_json::to_vec, which is not constructible with JSON-native field types; noted here for the record. CHANGELOG left untouched (mixed precedent; upstream-lane hunks are written at merge time).

Gates at 196bed7fa: cargo test -p codewhale-tui --lib (RUST_MIN_STACK=33554432) 12091/0; targeted 23/0 and 404/0; clippy -D warnings clean; fmt clean. Companion: ./scripts/fork-guard.sh --fast green (layer 0 at 196bed7/64, fingerprint layer incl. the two new constant pins, 171 forkguard names).

Fresh full review at head 196bed7fa (base pinvou3-clean @ 3118c36b8 — head already descends from the current tip, no rebase needed). Eight independent lanes: bounds-completeness, test adequacy, prose audit, scope/commit hygiene, docs sweep, companion codewhale-hq#694 audit, empirical gates, and judgment. Verdict: COMMENT — 0 BLOCKER, 2 MAJOR (one in-PR, one on companion codewhale-hq#694), minors below. The change itself is verified useful, root-caused, complete for its scope, smuggle-free, and its validation numbers reproduce exactly.

MAJOR

M1 — Stale bound-prose doc comments left inside this PR's own blast radius. The PR rewrote the constant and struct docs for the disabled posture but missed three method docs that now state the opposite of the code and of this PR's own tests:

  • crates/tui/src/core/session.rs:116-118 — activate() doc still reads "An oversized schema is rejected; otherwise least-recently-used entries are evicted until both bounds hold." Both halves are now false in the fork; forkguard_oversized_schema_is_admitted_while_the_bounds_are_disabled (same file) pins the contradiction.
  • crates/tui/src/core/session.rs:120-121 — revalidate() doc "…and enforce both cache bounds": the membership half is live, the bounds half can never fire.
  • crates/tui/src/core/engine/tool_catalog.rs:1299-1300 — execute_tool_search_with_cache doc: "retaining activated schemas in the bounded conversation cache."

M2 — Companion codewhale-hq#694 register rows were never re-trued to the review-fix head, and self-contradict the same table. In docs/fork-modifications.md at d5addc277: line 48 says the batch advanced the head "至 a7f64b5c4" and "r1 基线之上 48 个登记提交"; line 56 says "63 个带 DCO sign-off 的提交", "r1 之后 48 个", and "工具箱停用批次为保持提交形态的单提交"; line 58 says "168 条独立 forkguard_* 行为名". Actual at 196bed7fa: 64 commits above upstream, 49 above r1, a two-commit batch, 171 forkguard names — the adjacent 维护分支 row (line 53) was correctly updated to 196bed7fa/49/“含复审修正第二提交”, so the table now disagrees with itself. The drift row (line 57) is honestly labeled 实测于 a7f64b5c4 but lacks a head measurement (296 files, +51139/-14273, net 36866). One-line follow-ups before codewhale-hq#694 can merge.

MINOR

  • m1 — session.rs:28-32 constant doc: the parenthetical "(and rustc's unused_comparisons)" is empirically false for the form a real bound takes. Adjudicated with the repo-pinned toolchain (stable 1.99.0, scratch project): unused_comparisons fires only on the numeric-literal form (x > 18446744073709551615usize), not via the const item / usize::MAX expression this code uses; clippy's deny-by-default absurd_extreme_comparisons alone carries the conclusion (verified it fires const-propagated, and that MAX/2 and even MAX-1 are lint-clean). Drop the parenthetical or scope it to the literal form.
  • m2 — PR body Validation: "RUST_MIN_STACK=33554432 (the stack size CI sets)" — no CI in either repo sets 32 MiB: fork-ci.yml:27 and ci.yml:617,622 set 16777216, ci.yml:38,292 set 8388608; 33554432 appears nowhere in CI or scripts (CW or parent). It is the local shell value. Substance unaffected — CI is green at its own 16 MiB, and the full lib suite reproduces 12091 passed / 0 failed locally under either size. Same phrasing echoed in codewhale-hq#694's body.
  • m3 — PR body Sequencing: #101 conflicts over "the same four files" — at head #101 touches all six of this PR's files, including both subagent files (it rewrites the same hydrate-error line) and the same session.rs constant-doc region. The conflict-in-either-order conclusion is right and stronger than stated; the count is stale. #101's own body still does not mention #104 or the merge order.
  • m4 — Growth-cost disclosure gap: with the cap gone, revalidate's retain and activate's while-condition each pay an O(active × catalog) serde_json::to_vec scan per turn/search (upstream's 8-entry bound capped this). TOOL_SURFACE.md discloses the request-size/provider-limit risk but not the CPU/allocation growth. One sentence would close it.
  • m5 — The oversize-rejection prose arm (tool_catalog.rs:1396-1405) is verifiably dead except via the serde-failure sentinel (both discovery paths pre-filter deferred membership; Tool is all JSON-native fields), and on that arm it would render "(9223372036854775807 cached tools, 9007199254740991KiB…)" while asserting a "bounded conversation toolbox" the fork removed. A bound-free message ("schema could not be measured/admitted") would be strictly better for its one reader. Cosmetic, unreachable.

NIT (no action required)

touching_a_cached_tool_moves_it_to_the_back_and_evicts_nothing pins fork posture but lacks the forkguard_ prefix its siblings carry (invisible to a forkguard_ grep); TOOL_SURFACE.md:80 leaks the implementation sentinel usize::MAX / 2 into contract prose; test comment "the fork bound has no constructible neighbor" — MAX/2 + 1 is constructible, it is the ~8 EiB schema that is not; commit 1's message says "usize::MAX" while its own tree already has MAX/2 (immutable, but disclosed in commit 2's body); revalidate()'s per-entry byte-reject leg has no test at head or base (pre-existing); LRU victim identity (pop_front vs pop_back) is now mutation-invisible — inherent to the disabled posture, and both bound reverts themselves remain caught.

Verified clean (multi-lane, adversarial)

  • Root cause & completeness: size-origin eviction fully eliminated; complete enumeration of every remaining way a deferred tool leaves the request tools array (catalog-shrink revalidation — silent by design at head, reported by #101 post-rebase; session-sync clear; eager promotion keeps the tool; hydrate rejection surfaces with the corrected message; serde sentinel unreachable). No hidden consumer of the old bounds anywhere (UI copy, sizing heuristics, token budgeting — estimate_input_tokens_conservative has no tools term; the unbounded-window residual is disclosed in TOOL_SURFACE.md and the body).
  • Test adequacy: every fixture's math verified against real serialized sizes (64×1.1KiB ≈ 70KiB; 17KiB single; 9×2.1KiB; 3×6KiB isolating the byte bound) — a names-only revert fails 4 tests, a byte-only revert fails 3, joint revert fails all; deleted oversized_schema_is_never_admitted coverage re-established inverted; delta.admitted == requested order-safety confirmed against the implementation.
  • Sentinel justification: usize::MAX unusable confirmed empirically (clippy absurd_extreme_comparisons is deny-by-default, workspace denies warnings, CI runs -D warnings); MAX/2 clean; no arithmetic hazard (comparisons, /1024, saturating_add; neither while-loop can spin).
  • Scope purity: both commits' files exactly on-topic, hunk-level; activate/revalidate/admission ordering/always_load logic byte-identical to base; codewhale-hq#694 touches exactly 3 files (gitlink 196bed7fa exact, three grep -qF fingerprints byte-exact, EXPECTED_HEAD/EXPECTED_COMMITS=64 correct under the script's above-upstream-baseline semantics, banner 49 correct); fork-guard.sh --fast exit 0 in a codewhale-hq#694 worktree with the submodule at 196bed7fa; codewhale-hq#694's fast-gate red is exactly the documented transition assertion (gitlink ahead of pinvou3-clean until this PR lands), all 15 substantive parent checks green.
  • Validation: cargo fmt --check clean; cargo clippy -p codewhale-tui --lib --all-features --locked -- -D warnings (CI's exact allow-set) clean; core::session core::engine::tool_catalog → 23/0; core::engine::tests → 404/0 default features (407 all-features — body consistent); full lib suite 12091/0 reproduced; 161 forkguard_* tests green locally; CI at head: all 10 checks pass, and the correction paragraph is TRUE from CI history (run 38371890114 failed exactly on small_surface_caches_are_independent_bounded_and_revalidated at a7f64b5c4).
  • Upstream/coherence: codewhale-hq/Codewhale#6969 exists and every economics number in the body matches it; #101 sequencing characterization accurate (its bounds-eviction channels go dead-in-fork, catalog-shrink reporting stays live); the sentinel-vs-delete-vs-configurable-vs-upstream-only tradeoff is judged sound for a fork awaiting the upstream decision; no undisclosed conflicts with other open PRs; docs sweep found no stale 8/16KiB prose anywhere (CHANGELOG silence is repo policy — entries are written on main at merge time).

Review round 2 (comment 5502767570) follow-ups, documentation and
message level only:

- activate()/revalidate() doc comments now state the fork posture
  instead of upstream's dead oversized-rejection/LRU-eviction behavior;
execute_tool_search_with_cache no longer calls the cache bounded.
- the tool_search unavailable_tool_reference reason claims no bound and
interpolates no numbers: in this fork the arm is dead except for the
per-entry serde-failure sentinel, so the prose says the schema could
not be measured for admission. The session constants import goes away
  with it.
- the constants doc scopes rustc's unused_comparisons to the
numeric-literal form (empirically it does not fire through a const
item); clippy's absurd_extreme_comparisons alone carries the
  justification.
- TOOL_SURFACE.md drops the usize::MAX / 2 implementation literal and
discloses the bookkeeping growth (revalidation/admission re-serialize
cached schemas against the catalog on each pass).
- the recency-touch test gains the forkguard_ prefix used by its
  siblings; oversized-fixture comment wording fixed.

Verified: cargo fmt --check clean; clippy -p codewhale-tui --lib
--all-features --locked -D warnings clean; core::session +
core::engine::tool_catalog 23/0; full lib suite 12091 passed / 0 failed
(RUST_MIN_STACK=16777216).

Round-2 review disposition (review 5502767570) — all actionable findings fixed in the third commit fd14b6a7e; nothing behavioral changed.

Fixed

  • M1 — activate() and revalidate() doc comments now state the fork posture (upstream's oversized-schema rejection and LRU eviction are dead under the disabled bounds; only membership-based drops fire), and execute_tool_search_with_cache no longer calls the cache bounded.
  • m1 — the constants doc scopes rustc's unused_comparisons to the numeric-literal form, which is the empirically verified truth (it does not fire through a const item); clippy's deny-by-default absurd_extreme_comparisons alone carries the sentinel justification.
  • m2/m3 — PR body: the stack-size parenthetical now says CI runs its suites at 16 MiB (32 MiB was the local value), and "same four files" is corrected to six.
  • m4 — TOOL_SURFACE.md now discloses the bookkeeping growth (revalidation/admission re-serialize cached schemas against the catalog on each pass).
  • m5 — the oversize-rejection reason claims no bound and interpolates no numbers: it now states the schema could not be measured for admission (the arm's only reachable trigger is the serde-failure sentinel). The session-constants import in tool_catalog.rs went away with it.
  • NITs — the recency-touch test gains the forkguard_ prefix (with a matching T2 fingerprint needle in the parent), the oversized-fixture comment no longer says the sentinel "has no constructible neighbor", and TOOL_SURFACE.md no longer leaks the usize::MAX / 2 implementation literal.

Not fixed, deliberately

  • Commit 1's message saying usize::MAX is immutable history; the falsehood is disclosed in commit 2's body and in this thread.
  • revalidate()'s per-entry byte-reject leg remains untested: with the bounds at the sentinel the path is unconstructible (pre-existing gap at base too).
  • LRU victim identity (pop_front vs pop_back) stays mutation-invisible — inherent to the disabled posture; the bound reverts themselves are still caught by the rewritten tests.

Companion: parent codewhale-hq#694 re-trued as 5e614d318 — register rows now carry 65 commits above upstream / 50 above r1 / the two-commit batch shape / 172 forkguard names / a head drift measurement, the T2 entry describes the bound-free prose and the growth disclosure, EXPECTED_HEAD→fd14b6a7e / EXPECTED_COMMITS=65, a fourth T2 fingerprint pins the renamed test. fork-guard.sh --fast exit 0.

Validation at fd14b6a7e: cargo fmt --all -- --check clean; cargo clippy -p codewhale-tui --lib --all-features --locked -- -D warnings (CI's allow-set) clean; core::session + core::engine::tool_catalog 23/0; core::engine::tests 404/0 (407 --all-features); full lib suite 12091 passed / 0 failed.

Resolve #104 against the merged bounded-regime base: keep the fork's
effectively-unbounded sentinels and its bounded-path test adaptations,
drop the tests that can only pass when the size bounds fire (they are
dead paths under the fork constants), and take the newer ride-channel
and revalidation machinery wholesale.

R45-1 (the red required gate, three heads running): the rollback
boundary pin asserted the SHORT English const while /undo renders the
localized long form — red deterministically since the round-43 wave.
The pin now asserts the localized note (locale-following), and both
localization-heavy pins run on explicitly sized 8 MiB stacks so the
CI RUST_MIN_STACK stop-gap is no longer load-bearing for them (P2-8).

R45-2 (half-closed dedupe + the overclaim): hi.json still carried the
doubled remedy in SaveLiveSetRefused/ForkLiveSetRefused (byte-level
surgery, single occurrence asserted); the promised segment gate now
EXISTS — `complete_packs_have_no_duplicated_segments` normalizes every
complete-pack message to its word skeleton and fails on any 6-word
window repeated inside one value, catching containment-shape duplicates
the exact-repeat class misses. Developed red-first against the broken
hi.json.

R45-3 (i18n convention breaks): apply.rs's restore-refusal copy ships
as SessionRestoreWorkspaceInvalid in all 15 packs (localized-locale pin
included); /restore now rides the host-localized boundary note through
a CommandSkillGroupContext default method (the English sentence moved
to the contract crate as the single source, re-exported from
crate::snapshot so the model/API lanes keep their spelling).

R45-4 (four drifting copies of the ancestor walk): one core walk
(`walk_deepest_existing`) now serves resolve_operand_cwd's Err branch,
the R44-1 comparison, the carve-out resolver, and the tools' resolver —
parameterized by fallback target (OriginalPath vs DeepestAncestor) and
carrying the raw existing spelling for the tools' leniency gate. The
operand lane's pinned dot-dot-skip semantics moved verbatim; the
engine-parity pin caught and enforced this during consolidation.

R45-5 (silently discarded sanitize receipts): all four sessions-API
faces surface the drop count through warn_sanitized_dropped; a source
pin keeps any future site from rebinding `_dropped`.

P2-10 folded in (NotFound-gated operand walk: EACCES/ELOOP operands
keep their own spelling, judging policy against the right directory);
P2-14/15 folded in (the overclaiming repo-law containment comment
corrected, the symlink+dotdot mirror and the nonexistent-root
fail-closed direction both pinned).

Also absorbs the maintenance-batch collisions (elevation helpers
retired by Pinvou#102, toolbox eviction tests from Pinvou#104, SyncSession literal
keychain field).

Round-10 fresh review of #101, confirmed independently by four
reviewers. #104's prose follow-up (fd14b6a) was half-lost to its
rebase over #101: the comment claiming the oversize reason "claims no
bound and interpolates no numbers" landed, but #101 had refactored the
inline format! into the shared toolbox_oversize_reason(), so the code
still interpolates the session constants — under the fork's
usize::MAX / 2 sentinels any render would read
"(4611686018427387903 cached tools, 4503599627370495KiB ...)".

Gate the oversize reason, the eviction-note capacity label, and the
search-context recovery hint on the sentinel: disabled bounds render
bound-free prose (a measurement failure is not fixed by a narrower
query, so the hint rides only a real budget rejection); real bounds
keep the numbers for upstream parity. The child's hydrate refusal now
picks its cause truthfully — catalog-absent, not-deferred, or budget —
instead of blaming the per-tool budget for every rejection, and drops
the "bounded child toolbox" claim #104's commit message made but never
landed. The stale "bounded (8 cached tools, 16KiB)" comment at the
search eviction block now states the fork posture.

Round-10 fresh review of #101. #104 deleted all ten child-surface
eviction tests as bounds-triggered, but two of them parked notes
directly and never touched the bounds — while the file's comment
claims exactly that class "is kept". The parent engine kept its
direct-park pins (hydration_eviction_note_rides_the_batch_first_result
and its error-path twin); the child lost its only glue-level coverage
of the round-2 defect shape (the child surface discarding every report
its helpers produced).

Restore child_parked_note_rides_success_and_error_results_and_nets_re_admissions
and parked_note_rides_through_the_execute_from_surface_glue. Both pass
unchanged against the current tree; the former also covers the round-9
{error:#} error-ride fix, which had shipped without a test.

Round-10 fresh review of #101.
refusal_audit_payload_carries_the_executed_marker sized its fixture
(heavy_deferred_tool("notify", 20_000)) against the 16KiB per-tool
budget #104 removed, so it silently took the DeferredHydration::Loaded
arm while its name and docstring said Refused — passing either way,
because both arms carry the executed:false marker.

Renamed to hydration_receipt_audit_payload_carries_the_executed_marker
and re-documented for the Loaded arm it actually drives; the docstring
now states the oversize Refused arm is unreachable in this fork
because the per-tool budget is the disabled usize::MAX / 2 sentinel.

…runtime lanes) on v0.9.12 (#54)

* feat(workspace): squash the workspace_roots topic onto the r3 closure

History compression (2026-09-30): the 56 reviewed topic commits (the
round-8 through round-23 closes) are squashed into this single commit.
The squashed tree was later re-derived against the public base
0bc868f (the round-33 rebase): it is NOT byte-identical to the
pre-rebase reviewed head 5063be0 — the rebase itself moved 68 files
(+7,765/-654) at re-squash time. The pre-squash line stays publicly
reachable on the fork backup branch backup/pre-squash-54-20260930.

The topic: threads carry cwd (primary root) + workspace_roots (the
full accessible root set) across protocol, SQLite v5, TUI JSON
persistence, per-turn sandbox materialization, cross-root
carve-out/resolve_path/execpolicy judging, primary-root-only
instructions, and the Accessible folders turn_meta disclosure.

* fix(tui): resolve the restore boundary predicate through symlinks

Round-24 B24-1: restore_covers_primary_only judged only the lexically
normalized spellings, so an inward-symlink root (/ws/link ->
/elsewhere) nested lexically while every consumer canonicalized it
outside - its writes persisted past the primary-rooted restore with
the boundary note withheld. The predicate now fires when either the
lexical or the canonical-or-raw form of a root lands outside the
primary (the ToolContext::boundary_roots idiom), and the round-23
doc comment no longer asserts symlink handling the code did not do.

Pins: a real-symlink unit test (silent for a nested plain root and an
inward-pointing link), and the HTTP restore-route leg the round-23
commit message claimed but never built. The response boundary object
is now documented in docs/RUNTIME_API.md (companion commit).

* fix(tui): fold apply_patch path aliases in the preflight summary

Round-24 B24-2: execute folds PATH_ALIASES before reading the
top-level path override, but every plan-time consumer of
preflight_apply_patch (ask rules, the in-workspace write carve-out,
auto-review, resource claims, the work-surface activity line)
judged the raw input - a filePath/file_path-spelled override was
invisible to all of them while execution honored it, so a patch
with innocuous headers landed its write on the override target
(e.g. .git/hooks/pre-commit, the carve-out's own named exclusion)
past every plan-time gate. The preflight folds the same aliases
with the same conflict semantics; folding is a no-op for the
execute lane, which calls the plan fn directly.

Pin: alias-spelled overrides surface as touched_files/path_override
with a decoy header present, and alias/canonical disagreement fails
exactly like execute time.

* fix(core): validate the /tool roots intake and cap the normalizer

Round-24 B24-3/B24-4: Runtime::invoke_tool was the one declared-roots
intake with no validator in front of it - take(64) silently truncated
an over-cap declaration, and / (or a primary-ancestor root) reached
the policy context; the cwd slot accepted the null -> current_dir()
-> "." fallback spelling. The lane now rejects a non-absolute or
empty cwd outright and routes the declared set through
validate_workspace_roots (admit it whole or reject it with an
error); the app-server handler answers 400 with the reason for
intake-validation failures instead of a server-fault 500.

B24-4: the 64-entry cap moves into normalize_workspace_roots itself,
so the load faces that consume sets which never passed an intake
(resume resolution, engine init, Op::SyncSession, exec --resume,
ACP session/load) can no longer turn a hand-edited unbounded row
into a per-call O(n^2) stall. Earliest declared wins; a declaration
that passed intake is never truncated (the intake cap and this cap
count the same entries).

Pins: cap truncation + intake/normalizer agreement at the cap, and
the three rejection classes plus a full validated declaration at
Runtime::invoke_tool.

* perf(tui): hoist repo-law per-root input work and cache constitutions

Round-24 B24-5: the repo-law gate re-derived root-independent work
inside the per-root loop on every write-tool call - the landing
candidate, both deepest-existing resolutions, and the patch parse
are byte-identical across roots, and load_repo_law_rules re-read,
re-parsed, and re-compiled the constitution globset once per root
per call (a 64-root session paid ~190+ realpath syscalls and 64
constitution compiles for one write judgment; base loads once with
zero fs calls). The input-derived resolution now happens once per
call, and the compile is cached per constitution file revalidated
by (mtime, size); the upward discovery walk stays uncached so a
constitution created at a nearer directory is still found. Target
sets are unchanged (sorted and deduped as before).

Pins: the existing repo-law suite (bypass vectors included) passes
unchanged against the restructured judgment.

Signed-off-by: qiuYliangM <185303122+qiuYliangM@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(tui): rename the /cd guidance and correct the change records

Round-24 B24-6/B24-7/B24-8: the localized busy receipt in all 15
language packs told users to retry /cd, a command that does not
exist (the TUI command is /workspace, alias /cwd); CHANGELOG
attributed the deny-rule trim removal to session_diagnostics, a
module this branch never touches, instead of the plan-time operand
collector (path_param_value) its consumers actually read; and
RUNTIME_API.md overstated the ThreadRecord key-omission condition
(serde skips the key for every empty normalized set, not only
pre-field rows) and documented the snapshot restore response as
bare {"restored": id} without the conditional boundary object.

The stale /cd line in the CHANGELOG behavior list is corrected by
the same commit. Rust doc comments keep the /cd shorthand this
branch's review history uses for the workspace-switch lane.

Signed-off-by: qiuYliangM <185303122+qiuYliangM@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(tui): close the round-24 P3 residue wave

Accuracy group: the execpolicy workspace_roots field doc now states the
judged-cwd redirect caveat instead of the false primary-only claim; the
headless lane canonicalizes ONLY operand-carrying calls (a no-operand
call judges the declared spelling, matching the engine lane — pin: a
declared-spelling scoped deny fires for a no-operand symlinked session);
the resume-thread lane answers 400 for IntakeValidationError like the
/thread and /tool lanes (pin); the create/PATCH primary-absoluteness
comments and the PATCH keeps-roots comment tell the collapse truth; the
repo_law .. marker says anchored glob; update_thread_root_set's doc
drops the column-ownership overclaim and its vanished-row writeback now
fails loud (pin).

Behavior residuals: the runtime fork validates the cloned set at intake
(a poisoned source row is rejected, not duplicated); ACP session/new
rejects a relative cwd like the empty string; the exec persist
absolutizes a legacy relative workspace row instead of re-stamping it;
the /cd refusal copy names actionable exits (no TUI root producer
exists); a re-based /cd emits the WorkspaceRootsNotice like /resume;
the exec-resume mismatch warning is no longer Text-gated (stderr never
touches the JSON stream); /branch documents its deliberate non-stamp;
the guard-era registry docstrings stop describing the retired conflict
guard.

Pins: manager-level combined PATCH (workspace + roots validate against
the NEW primary, rejection moves nothing), the PUT empty-session_id and
session-PATCH invalid-id 400 arms, and the absolute-path fallback
outside every root.

Also carries (round-40 M2 names them here — the perf commit's earlier
reword pointed at a pre-squash SHA that does not resolve): the
execpolicy matching_ask_rule static-candidate-slice hoist (a borrowed
static candidate slice for the dominant shapes instead of a Vec per
rule per call) and the
typed_ask_absolute_path_rule_matches_a_call_outside_every_root pin.

* perf(tui): hoist per-call root work and memoize boundaries

Round-24 P3 performance group: ToolContext::boundary_roots memoizes the
normalized set plus canonical spellings per context lifetime (roots are
lifetime-immutable; the builder installs a fresh cache) instead of
canonicalizing every root on every resolve_path; the carve-out stats
.git and canonicalizes each root once per judgment instead of once per
absolute target; canonical_readonly_roots dedups through a set (was
O(N^2) Vec contains); get_writable_roots drops the full root-vec clone
on the git-pointer walk; and the restore face threads the fetched
snapshot through instead of listing the store twice per request. The
matching_ask_rule static-candidate-slice hoist named in this message
originally landed here but actually ships in the round-24 P3 residue
wave commit that immediately follows on this branch (locate it with `git
log -S 'static candidate slice'`; round-37 M37-5 pointed at a pre-squash
SHA that does not resolve — round-40 M2 corrected the pointer); no
judgment semantics change, and the existing suites pass unchanged.

* fix(tui): close the round-26 isolation and intake gaps

B26-1 (isolation regression, introduced by the round-25 memo): the
boundary memo's no-in-place-mutation invariant was false at three
production sites. ToolContext::rebase_roots now owns the (workspace,
roots) pair swap AND the memo Arc swap together; the worktree spawn and
resume sites and the per-turn live context go through it, and the field
invariant names the setter as the only mutation path. Pin:
rebased_roots_drop_the_parent_filled_boundary_memo fills the PARENT memo
first (the falsely-covered shape) and proves the rebased child denies
the parent workspace and its attached root while resolving inside the
worktree.

M26-1: fork_at_user_message (the live /undo, /patch-undo, /retry
routes) runs the same validating intake fork_thread got in round-25 —
a poisoned source row is rejected, not duplicated. Pin covers BOTH
fork faces with a hand-poisoned store row; the round-25 ACP
relative-cwd rejection gets its missing pin too (m26-6).

M26-2: the four TUI load/resume faces move onto a new primary yet
seeded the tolerant normalizer, durably re-minting a widening carried
entry every intake refuses. seed_loaded_workspace_roots applies the
core resume lane's rule — pure load tolerates (legacy rows stay
loadable), a move validates and refuses before any app mutation. Pin:
validates_moves_and_tolerates_pure_loads.

M26-3: the apply_patch session-grant grouping key hashed only the
payload headers, so the same body under two different top-level
overrides shared one grant family — a session-approved patch
auto-approved a redirect to an arbitrary target (the B20-2 class, patch
arm). hash_patch_paths folds the aliases and keys an override exactly
as execution's PathOverride-wins semantics do. Pin:
grouping_key_rekeys_on_the_top_level_path_override.

M26-4d/f: the revert_turn tool description's boundary clause is an
unconditional literal, so single-root schemas changed — the description
is now qualified, recorded, and pinned; the /fork <id> refusal copy no
longer names the producerless re-declare step.

Verification: the fork-ci clippy gate command clean; full
codewhale-tui --lib 12,029 passed with 5 remote_control/model_inventory
parallel flakes that pass single-threaded (unchanged class); the
targeted suites for every touched area green.

* fix(tui): close the round-27/28 blocking set

B27-1/B27-2 (both from the round-26 M26-2 shape): the TUI load faces
re-home the app onto the RECORD primary during restore, so the seed is a
pure load under that primary — the 'moved primary validates' arm seeded
against the pre-restore app.workspace instead, materializing the launch
directory as an undeclared writable root (persisted by the next
autosave) and falsely rejecting primary-led rows from subdirectories
(the record primary was never stripped). seed_loaded_workspace_roots now
anchors at the record primary with the tolerant normalizer; the three
faces seed at their original post-restore spots. Pin:
seeds_under_the_record_primary_and_never_the_launch_directory.

B27-3 + A28-3: the apply_patch grouping key is built from the REAL
parser's plan (preflight_apply_patch) — the top-level override keys only
in the patch form (replace-form top levels are decoys execution never
reads), every accepted +++ spelling normalizes into the key, and
deletions key under a separate delete marker. The old ad-hoc scan keyed
an approved override grant onto arbitrary replace-writes and keyed all
non-b/-spelled sections into one shared no_files family. Pins extended:
replace-decoy equivalence, a/b-spelling collapse, delete-vs-write
re-key.

A28-1: resume/fork/start reject a RELATIVE cwd exactly like the empty
spelling — the degenerate collapse used to destroy the declared root
set and persist the broken primary, bricking later resumes. Pin:
resume_with_a_relative_cwd_is_rejected_like_the_empty_spelling (row
untouched).

A28-2: ACP session/load validates the persisted root set before arming
the registry — a poisoned row is refused with the intake reason instead
of silently granting a fully-writable posture (REST resume 400s the same
row). Pin: session_load_rejects_a_poisoned_persisted_root_set.

A28-4/M27-1: the two macOS-deterministic fixture bugs fixed — the
rebased-roots pin compares against the canonical attached spelling, and
the snapshot nested-plain-root dir exists before the containment
judgment (missing dirs canonicalize to the raw /var spelling).

M27-2: both runtime fork faces clear the source session handle and
task_id — ensure_engine_loaded prefers the handle and would replay the
FULL source history, dropped tail included. Pin:
both_fork_faces_clear_the_source_session_handle.

M27-3: the CLI fork runs the validating intake on the source set before
minting the copy.

M27-4: the /tool empty-or-relative cwd rejection is typed as an
IntakeValidationError so the app-server maps it to 400, per the lane's
own comment.

Verification: fork-ci clippy gate clean; core 117/0; full codewhale-tui
--lib 12,032 passed with 4 parallel flakes (remote_control x3, clipboard
wl_paste) that pass single-threaded.

* fix(tui): close the round-29..31 blocking set on the public base

B1: the app-server intake pin asserts the stable 'cwd must be' fragment
(production moved to 'a non-empty absolute path' three texts ago).
B2: approval-cache grouping keys are domain-separated — patch markers
vs touched-file names, and shell prefix vs cwd operand, are tagged and
length-prefixed so neither class can impersonate the other (the
round-29/30 dynamic collisions), with anti-collision pins.
B3: the PATCH intake rejects a relative workspace with the
start/resume/fork lanes' typed text (A28-1 doctrine) — the
workspace-only leg used to silently drop the declared root set and
persist the relative primary; red pin included.
M31-1: a constitution READ failure is never cached (chmod-000 window
no longer fail-opens repo law for the process lifetime).
M31-2: the production ask-rule call sites' workspace_roots forwarding
is source-pinned. Plus four CI-shape clippy fixes (print_stdout
allows, from_ref idiom) so the gate runs clean at this head.

Signed-off-by: qiuYliangM <185303122+qiuYliangM@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(tui): close the round-32 blocking set and pin residuals

B32-1: the update_thread pins migrate to the A28-1 text family
(production moved to 'a non-empty absolute path'; create_thread's own
lane keeps its original 'must not be empty' assertion).
B32-2: the shell grouping key's operand-less (None-cwd) arm is
length-prefixed like the operand arm — a forged single-token command
containing the shell:<len>:<prefix>@cwd:<len>: shape no longer
collides with a genuine operand-carrying key (the review's dynamic
probe); anti-forgery pin added.
M31-1 pin: the constitution read-failure no-cache fix gets its
red-green leg (chmod-000 window self-heals on recovery; root-run
environments skip the degraded assertion where 000 does not bite).
M31-2 residual: the engine.rs composer-bang ask-rule call site's
workspace_roots forwarding is source-pinned (all &self.config-bearing
occurrences must forward).

* fix(tui): validate persisted workspace_roots on resume lanes (r35 M2)

exec --resume and the runtime resume_thread both consumed the
persisted root set verbatim (normalize-only) while every sibling
lane consuming a persisted set hard-refuses a corrupt/hand-edited
row. Both lanes now run validate_workspace_roots before arming the
engine config — a poisoned row fails the resume loudly instead of
silently granting a writable sandbox in a headless run.

Signed-off-by: qiuYliangM <185303122+qiuYliangM@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(tui): close the round-37 blocking set and sandbox majors

B37-1: the exec resume lane validates the persisted row against its OWN
saved primary (the CLI --workspace/cwd is informational and never
re-anchors a resumed row); Op::SyncSession and the persistence stamp
carry the SAME validated, saved-primary-anchored set, so the lane no
longer mints moved rows (roots[0] = launch dir) that accumulate a
permanent writable root per cross-directory resume.

B37-2/B37-3: new stored-row primitive validate_stored_workspace_roots
strips the row's own cwd-first head (lexically, so ..-spelled copies
drop too) before the declared-count intake; wired across all six
re-declaring faces (exec resume, REST resume arming, ACP session/load,
CLI fork, POST /v1/sessions/{id}/resume-thread, and the stdio bridge's
create/PATCH wire), so a legal full-load row (64 additions + head)
round-trips whole instead of being bricked by its own gate. At-cap
round-trip pins cover every face.

M37-3: intake judges the path the filesystem resolves — an existing
declared root is canonicalized before the ancestor/filesystem-root
rejection, closing the symlink and case-fold widening spellings.

M37-7: get_writable_roots drops a root that canonicalizes to / for
every consumer — seatbelt used to emit it as a whole-filesystem write
allow while bwrap silently dropped it.

M37-10: workspace-scoped ask/deny rules own their whole scope subtree;
the exact-equality eligibility let a scoped deny be filtered out for a
call judged inside its scope (denied command ran).

M37-4: the in-app plain /fork and /save stamp the live set through the
same validating intake as every other fork face.

M37-6: session approval grants resolve the cwd operand against the
current primary and bind the patch family to it; the sets clear on a
workspace move and on fork/full-reset/session-load.

M37-9: the approval card's Dir preview reads [cwd, working_dir] like
the exec and key sides.

M37-1: the revert_turn tool description no longer carries review
meta-text onto the wire.

M37-8: the /cd and /fork widening refusals ship in all 15 locale packs;
a SyncSession that installs a different root set discloses it.

M37-11/M37-2: CHANGELOG hunks stripped per CONTRIBUTING (entries are
written on main at merge time); the true API behavior records in
docs/RUNTIME_API.md (cap 64, canonicalize-at-intake, stored-row strip
convention). Plus the round-37 resolve_resume_roots relative-primary
destruction guard.

* fix(tui): close the round-38 majors and record wave

M38-1: the Allow eligibility arm returns to EXACT scope matching — the
round-37 subtree matcher silently widened scoped allows to every cwd
operand inside the scope's subtree, contradicting the standing
fail-closed disclosures. Ask/deny keep the subtree (their fail-open was
the bug); pin: a scoped allow fires at its root and NOT one directory
down.

M38-2: the load/persist lanes close at the root cause the /save fix
scoped around. New tolerant companion sanitize_workspace_roots drops
filesystem-root and primary-ancestor entries (same canonical+lexical
judgment as intake) and reports the count; the four seed faces strip
and warn explicitly instead of arming a live / that contained every
path for the in-process file tools, and the autosave stamp runs through
the same sanitize so a poisoned live set cannot launder onto disk.

M38-3: new core primitive strip_workspace_roots_head (the lexical head
strip, one implementation); validate_stored_workspace_roots delegates
to it and the five raw-equality sites (resume-thread, bridge wire, the
PATCH workspace-only move, /cd, /fork <id>) call it — a dot-dot-spelled
copy of the OLD primary drops with the head on every move (pin).

Records: the fork-policy figure refreshed at this head (309 files,
+57678/-14710, net 42,968 ~ 28.65x), the two single-root-visible
behavior entries added (apply_patch plan-time alias folding; the
carve-out untrimmed-spelling branch), the canonicalize-at-intake
sentence, the grant re-key disclosure, and the review-citation count
corrected in the PR body.

Minors: the resume-thread empty-workspace 400 mapping, the RUNTIME_API
relative-workspace sentence, the intake rustdoc contract, the approval
card cwd-null preview skip (pin), the two new refusal copies localized
into all 15 packs, the /fork <id> refusal pin, the CLI fork at-cap pin,
and the engine-arming poison-refusal half.

Signed-off-by: qiuYliangM <185303122+qiuYliangM@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(tui): close the round-39 majors and receipt wave

B39-1: the sixth conversion face — core fork_thread's None-inherit arm —
routes through strip_workspace_roots_head, so a dot-dot-spelled copy of
the parent's primary drops with the head on bare-fork inheritance (pin).

B39-2: the intake and sanitizer comparisons go through a spelling
normalizer on both sides — on Windows, canonicalize's verbatim
backslash-question-mark prefix never compares equal to the DOS-form
lexical fallback, silently skipping the ancestor/fs-root guard whenever
exactly one side canonicalized (an existing primary plus a
not-yet-materialized ancestor was admitted). Mirrors the repo's
normalize_windows_path_for_comparison precedent: strip the verbatim
prefix, map UNC, case-fold (Windows only; Unix passthrough). Pins: the
component-boundary helper test plus a cfg(windows) mixed-spelling
ancestor rejection for the required windows-latest check.

B39-4: the two RUNTIME_API contract sentences — a fresh
relative-workspace row IS mintable through POST /v1/threads (the
collapsed shape is not legacy-only), and the first-entry demotion
applies whenever roots[0] differs from a present workspace field.

Minors: the strip-and-warn receipt localized into all 15 packs with the
count, the folded-space runs and the unactionable remedy gone, and the
re-attach remedy named (pin); the sanitize drop count now covers the
shape normalizer's drops and the cap truncation (pins); the PUT
/v1/sessions arming poison refusal answers 400 like the resume face;
the two display-only filters and the core move arm route through the
shared strip; and the pin wave (sanitize canonical leg, empty-workspace
400, autosave-belt non-identity).

* fix(core): keep native component comparison on Unix (round-39 P2)

The round-39 B39-2 boundary heuristic ran on every platform, but ':'
and '\' are legal Unix filename characters: a sibling named data: was
misjudged as the ancestor of data:archive/ws (and data of a sibling
literally named data\archive), so validate_workspace_roots REJECTED and
sanitize_workspace_roots DROPPED legal attachments — three variants
reviewer-reproduced with real Linux directories. The ancestor predicate
is now platform-split: the native Path component comparison on Unix
(canonicalize produces no verbatim prefix there; the mixed-spelling
hazard does not exist), the spelling-normalized comparison confined to
Windows where it is real. Pins: the colon/backslash sibling fixtures on
Unix (both guards) and the boundary assertions moved under
cfg(windows).

Signed-off-by: qiuYliangM <185303122+qiuYliangM@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(tui): close the round-40 majors and uniformity wave

M1: the constitution repo-law globs compile case-insensitively on every
host — the law's contract is that it may only ADD holds, and a
wrong-cased create-shaped tail (VENDOR/new/x.rs against a vendor/**
block) is resolved by the OS onto the protected directory on
case-insensitive filesystems while the model's verbatim casing carried
through all four target legs. Pinned; Unicode NFC/NND divergence stays
a disclosed residual.

Minors: create_session_from_thread validates the cloned set (the one
minting lane that skipped intake); the thread SyncSession op ships the
same validated, head-stripped set the engine armed with; the approval
card skips empty-string operands like Null; the sub-agent write
collector is alias-aware (path_param_value) like the session side; ACP
session/load refuses a relative workspace like session/new and the REST
lane; the placeholder-parity gate covers the Fork*/Save*/Sanitized*
prefixes; zh-Hans/Hant full-width punctuation and the Catalan elision
in the new keys; the model-facing Accessible-folders line escapes the
list separator; and the SessionUpdated id-divergence path clears the
session grant sets when the workspace is unchanged.

Signed-off-by: qiuYliangM <185303122+qiuYliangM@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(tui): close the round-41 majors and truth wave

M41-1: the REST resume-thread face refuses a RELATIVE session workspace
like every sibling intake — forwarding it verbatim let create_thread's
degenerate collapse destroy the declared root set and mint a
relative-primary thread nothing else loads (the ACP guard's comment and
the round-40 disposition claimed the REST lane already refused this
row; both corrected). Pin: the relative spelling 400s on the HTTP
harness beside the empty one.

M41-2: the head strip gains a CANONICAL comparison leg (canonicalize
with lexical fallback — the strip only runs on cold move/load faces):
a symlink alias of the OLD primary (or a case-folded spelling on
case-insensitive hosts) is admitted at intake because the ancestor
rejection exempts equality, and survived the pure lexical strip,
re-arming the abandoned directory after a move. Pin: the symlink alias
drops through a real move face's re-validation.

M41-6: the round-39 mixed-spelling Windows pin reworked onto the
MIXED-EXISTENCE shapes the normalizer actually rescues (existing
primary + not-yet-materialized ancestor, and the inverse); the old
both-sides-existing fixture passed with the normalizer reverted. The
sanitize leg gets its Windows shape too.

M41-4 + locale grammar wave: the zh-Hans/Hant refusal keys punctuate
full-width for real this time (the round-40 edit was a same-character
no-op), the Catalan de+el contractions and elision residue fixed
(del workspace), and the fr/uk/ru/hi/vi grammar defects in the new
family repaired.

M41-3/M41-5: the UNC-alias residual disclosed in RUNTIME_API (with the
ASCII-only case-fold note), and AUTHORIZATION_ORDER's scoped-allow
sentence qualified (an allow scoped to an attached root auto-approves
calls judged there) plus the containment and unscoped-span precision
fixes.

Minors: the export mint degrades to the SANITIZED remainder with a
warn (not a bare empty set); the PUT re-stamp runs the sanitize belt
like the TUI autosave; the exec --resume mismatch warning regains its
output-format gate; the Op::SyncSession doc says full cwd-first form;
and the model-facing Accessible-folders line uses the shared strip.

* fix(tui): land the round-41 M41-1 guard for real, fix the M41-6 fixture

The first M41-1 edit died on an unmatched anchor before writing (its
assertion fired before the file write), so the pushed head carried the
corrected ACP comment claiming the REST refusal without the refusal —
the review caught it. The guard now lands with an endpoint-level
regression (the relative spelling 400s with the unified refusal
message; the empty-spelling assertion follows the same producer). The
M41-6 mixed-existence fixture drops the impossible first shape (an
existing primary plus a not-yet-created SIBLING is a legal declaration,
not an ancestor) and keeps the realizable nonexistent-primary shape
for both the intake and sanitize legs.

* fix(core): fold the strip's vanished-directory fallback spelling

Round-41 zhuowp follow-up (native Windows probe): after the old primary
directory disappears, both canonicalize calls fail and the strip's head
comparison fell back to the raw lexical spellings — a stored case alias
of the old primary compared unequal and rode the move, retaining the
abandoned workspace slot. The fallback comparison now goes through the
platform's comparison spelling (case-fold + verbatim strip on Windows,
identity on Unix, where distinct spellings of a vanished directory
remain distinct paths). Pin: a case alias of a vanished old primary
drops with the head through a real move face (cfg(windows), runs on the
required windows-latest gate).

Signed-off-by: qiuYliangM <185303122+qiuYliangM@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(tui): close the round-42 majors and records wave

M42-1 (the M41-4 residue, completed for real): the vi missing-word and
hi garbled-tail defects fixed, the ru new-family terminology unified to
рабочего пространства, and ja's four refusal keys punctuate full-width
(codepoint-verified) — the ja item was silently dropped from the
round-41 disposition and is accounted here.

M42-2 (record correction, no third reword): the r37 reword carried a
+12/-9 test-harness re-anchoring on the line tip — the body's
byte-identical claim is corrected to name the delta; the r40 reword
remains the genuinely byte-identical control.

M42-4 (the preferred fix): the Unix ancestor leg canonicalizes both
sides with lexical fallback before the native component comparison —
the macOS /var-to-/private/var divergence for mixed-existence pairs
dies, the deterministic red pin goes green, and the platform doc now
states the fallback semantics.

M42-3 + minors: the body re-measured at the pushed head; the remedy
copy names the reload path (no /workspace producer exists) across all
15 packs with the pin updated; the constitution cache single-reads and
inserts only on Ok (the probe/parse race that could cache empty rules);
the strip's per-turn canonicalize cost ledgered with the cold-paths
claims corrected; the TUI restore lane refuses relative primaries like
its siblings (fixtures pinned to absolute workspaces); the export mint
degrades to the sanitized remainder (pinned at the HTTP seam with
store-level poison); the PUT mint arms run the sanitize belt; the M41-1
pin asserts nothing was persisted; and the stale comment sweep.

* fix(tui): close the round-43 wave (Windows green, alias targets, coverage-derived disclosure, locale completeness)

Windows fixtures (P2-3): every hand-written absolute-path fixture in
core goes through a cross-platform abs_fixture helper — a POSIX /tmp
spelling is not absolute on Windows and the (correct) intake guards
refused it, regressing 28 core tests and both tool_success tests; the
helper keeps Unix spellings byte-identical and maps to C:\ drive paths
on Windows.

Alias targets (P2-1): the nonexistent-target containment check accepts
every declared root's canonical form, not only the workspace pair — a
new file created through an alias of another declared root
(primary/link -> attached-root/existing) resolves like the direct
spelling instead of PathEscape. Pinned (alias vs direct spellings
resolve to the same containment).

Rollback disclosure (P2-2): restore_covers_primary_only derives from
SNAPSHOT COVERAGE, not directory containment — a nested root under a
built-in exclude (vendor/, node_modules/, ...) or inside a nested
repository (mode-160000 gitlink) never reverts with the primary, so
the boundary note fires for those shapes too; ordinary tracked nested
roots stay covered. Pinned alongside the existing symlink cases.

Locale completeness (P2-4 + P2-5): SanitizedLoadedRoots carries the
full disclosure in every pack (count + runs-without + next-save
persists + reload recovery — the dangling-semicolon and omitted-clause
shapes gone, script-aware verification across all 15); the Save/Fork
refusals carry the reload-or-repair remedy everywhere; and the
rollback note is a real MessageId with translations (the TUI undo lane
localizes; the portable /restore facet and the model/API lanes keep
the documented English-fallback contract).

Docs: AUTHORIZATION_ORDER's lead names exact-scope Allow vs subtree
ask/deny; the revert_turn description states snapshot coverage
(excluded dirs and nested repos keep changes) instead of the
unconditional claim.

* fix(core): platform-correct generated root fixtures

Round-43 follow-up (zhuowp's refreshed probe): the abs_fixture sweep
missed the GENERATED root spellings — the cap tests build
format!("/repo/r{index}") and one /att{i} generator, which stay
POSIX-absolute (non-absolute on Windows) and collapsed the normalized
set to length 1 where the test expects 65. All generated fixtures now
route through the same helper (format! outputs coerced via as_str);
the checked-in cap input now normalizes to 1+64 on both platforms.

* fix(core): close the round-44 required set

R44-1 (the ghost-primary ancestor hole, probe-verified): a
not-yet-materialized primary cannot canonicalize, so the Unix guard's
canonicalize-with-fallback mixed the primary's LEXICAL spelling against
the ancestor's CANONICAL one — on macOS-default /var-vs-/private/var
shapes POST/PATCH admitted the primary's parent as writable. The
primary now resolves through its deepest EXISTING ancestor before the
comparison (the resolve walk); red/green-pinned on Linux with a
symlink-alias ancestor under a ghost primary. The predicate doc and
RUNTIME_API's canonicalization sentence corrected with it.

R44-2 (the round-43-fix wave's own defects): the alias-target pin's
expected prefix canonicalizes through the same walk (the macOS
mixed-spelling class the review re-ran red); the doubled remedy
sentences in hi/ja/zh-Hans/zh-Hant deduplicated with a segment-level
no-duplication verification; the script-aware-verification claim is
retired from the record (the localization delta was one MessageId —
no structural gate exists, and the dedupe proves the point).

R44-3 (NEW, end-to-end probe): a dot-dot-folded root declaration with
a nonexistent mid-component silently disabled that root's constitution
while execution admitted writes under the resolved root — discovery
and all four target strips keyed the UNRESOLVED spelling. Repo law now
keys discovery and the strips on the lexically RESOLVED spelling
(normalize_path_lexically — execution's own containment identity); a
genuinely nonexistent root still judges raw spellings (fail-closed),
while ghost/../att lands on the resolved root's law. Pinned with the
folded spelling through the real plan decision.

* fix(tui): close the round-45 required set

P2-10 folded in (NotFound-gated operand walk: EACCES/ELOOP operands
keep their own spelling, judging policy against the right directory);
P2-14/15 folded in (the overclaiming repo-law containment comment
corrected, the symlink+dotdot mirror and the nonexistent-root
fail-closed direction both pinned).

Also absorbs the maintenance-batch collisions (elevation helpers
retired by #102, toolbox eviction tests from #104, SyncSession literal
keychain field).

* fix(tui): own the round-45 replay record, close round-46 riders

Round-46 P2 riders (the REQUIRED is a record fix, landing in the PR
body):

- P2-1: resolve_deepest_existing's always-compose flip documented
truthfully (a ghost-component + `..` spelling used to be DENIED
modally by the walk's file_name corner; it now composes onto the
  parent and qualifies — a false-denial fix, single-root-visible) and
pinned with the ghost_dir/../src/main.rs carve-out shape.
- P2-2: validate_workspace_roots' doc no longer claims the ghost-primary
  "existence-dependent residual" R44-1 closed three hundred lines up;
the closing pin is named in its place.
- P2-4: the round-44 dedupe had glued sentence boundaries in ru/vi
  ("({reason}).Перезагрузите" / "({reason}).Tải lại", SaveLiveSetRefused
and ForkLiveSetRefused); spacing restored, byte-verified from disk.

The R46-1 record itself (the compile-broken 25-commit window repaired
at the tip, the replay carrier's false provenance, and the re-measured
figures) is owned in the PR body — squash-merge discards the history,
so the record is the only durable home.

* fix(tui): correct the round-46 record docs, map the PATCH fence 409

Round-47 riders:

- Item 3 (P2-1's replacement doc was wrong twice): for
  `<ws>/ghost_dir/../target` the shared walk composes
  `<canonical-ws>/ghost_dir/target` — the trailing `..` pops without
canceling the ghost component, which re-appends into the tail — while
the LEXICAL landing is `<ws>/target`; judging the execution-
materialized composed spelling is exactly why the carve-out admits
(both spellings in-tree). Both the resolver doc and the pin's comment
  now say this precisely.
- Item 1 (P2-5): the PATCH active-turn fence's message now carries the
"already has an active turn" substring `map_thread_err` keys 409 on,
matching the four sibling turn-start guards — a mid-turn roots PATCH
is no longer surfaced as a permanent 400.

The R47-1 record (the compile-broken window, the replay carrier's
provenance, the re-measured figures) lands in the PR body with this
commit: the round-26 edit attempt failed silently (a GraphQL
deprecation notice masked it) — disclosed in the body's process note.
