Welcome to the Open-Data-Day wiki!
Here are the ideas we've come up with so far. Feel free to add more or elaborate on an idea!
If an idea gets a lot of attention and information behind it, it probably makes sense to move it to its own page and link to it from the big list.

** We're working on this one: **

  • Friendly html5 / app front-end to potholes.phila.gov (for reporting street potholes, not working lights, dead animals, etc)

    • remember your info, geolocate, imgur a picture and submit a link to the image in the description
    • Twitter interface!

  • whenstrashday.com from citymaps.phila.gov

    • Not sure if we can get the data. Less than ideal solution would be to wrap the existing site with a location-aware web page
    • You can get the data from PASDA (http://www.pasda.psu.edu) Look for datasets for Philadelphia county. The dataset is called "Philadelphia rubbish/recycling collection day boundaries". It's in shape file format, but, if you think you're going to go with this idea, then I can try to get it ported to GeoJSON or some other format by morning. - Aaron

  • Log (eventually to predict?) late trains: http://trainview.septa.org/ (this may be inaccurate)

  • Log (eventually to predict?) train problems from Septa’s twitter feed

  • Do something with Septa's realtime bus data (currently in beta: http://appdev.septa.org/busview-beta/?route=33 )

  • Grants from Small Business Innovation Research http://sbir.gov/

  • FuseFS -> CouchDB -> SimulChart for instruments (e.g. at a hospital or in a lab) that log to text files
