Naming: this action is no longer about "extensions" (Triton kernels aren't extensions), and the next cache (Inductor, FlashInfer, numba, ...) would make it worse. Suggest a name that covers any runtime-compiled cache:

  • .github/actions/cache-extensions -> restore-jit-caches, .github/actions/save-extensions -> save-jit-caches (matches the actions/cache/restore / save verbs; "JIT" is already the term in the descriptions)
  • step id ext-cache -> jit-caches, step names "Restore JIT caches" / "Save JIT caches" in gpu_tests.yml and _example_tests_runner.yml
  • outputs: one <name>-key / <name>-hit pair per cache, so cache-key/cache-hit -> torch-ext-key/torch-ext-hit next to triton-key/triton-hit; input cache-key -> env-key (it is the GPU + image discriminator, not a cache key)
  • keep the cache key prefixes torch-ext- / triton-: they are per-cache and accurate, and renaming them would invalidate the existing caches

Optional, can be a follow-up: have the restore action write each cache's key/hit to $GITHUB_ENV and let the save action read them, so adding a cache no longer adds with: inputs to both workflows. Composite actions have no post hook, so the explicit always() save step stays.

Doing the rename here is cheaper than later, since every caller would change again.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Support named CUDA architectures before filtering.

If TORCH_CUDA_ARCH_LIST=Hopper, PyTorch expands Hopper to 9.0+PTX. This code instead sets keep to {""}. It removes every -gencode entry and raises ValueError, although both pinned packages have an sm_90 entry. Expand supported architecture names before matching so this valid setting does not block the wheel build. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Review comment at @noxfile.py at line 149:
Update the keep-set construction so supported named values such as Hopper are
expanded to their numeric CUDA architecture before extracting digits and
matching -gencode entries. Preserve the existing handling of numeric
architecture values and +PTX suffixes so the valid setting retains the matching
sm_90 entry.
