"ship", or equivalent before running `git push`, `gh pr create`, or any
push-option flags like `-o merge_request.create`.

## Pre-push review pass

Before asking to push, review the whole diff against its base as a skeptical
reviewer would, and report what you found. If the pass turns up an opportunity
below, tell the user and offer to address it before pushing; do not push as-is.

- **Performance and memory, especially on GPU.** Measure peak memory and time
of changed heavy paths at realistic sizes (e.g. with
`torch.cuda.max_memory_allocated`) instead of reasoning about them. Look for
full-size temporaries (float32 copies of narrower tensors, int64
intermediates, whole-tensor work a chunked loop could bound), expensive work a
cache or earlier result already holds, and host syncs or device-to-host copies
on hot paths.
- **Distributed and offloaded paths.** Every rank must issue the same
collectives in the same order; rank-dependent work, and any hook it triggers,
must not start one. Do not keep gathered or onloaded weights past their layer.
- **Simplicity.** Prefer the smallest diff, and extending an existing mechanism
over adding a parallel one: ask whether something already does this. Remove
dead code, debug leftovers, unused options and unrelated refactors. Keep
public API changes minimal and backward compatible. Comments say why, not
what.
- **Correctness.** Validate before mutating, so a refusal leaves state
unchanged, and fail loudly rather than silently ignore an option or route.
Cover the layouts the change can meet: dtypes, tied or shared weights,
offloaded, FSDP2 and meta tensors, fused or grouped modules.
- **Evidence.** Each fix has a test that fails without it; check by reverting.

Limit regression-test requirements to behavior changes.

Because these instructions apply to all AI-assisted work, “Each fix” also covers documentation-only changes. Those changes may have no meaningful executable regression test. Limit this requirement to behavior fixes and call for suitable validation for other changes.

Review comment at @AGENTS.md at line 65:
Update the Evidence guidance in AGENTS.md to require a regression test that
fails without the change for behavior fixes, and suitable validation for
non-behavior changes such as documentation-only updates.

After applying the fix, consider running `coderabbit review --agent` for local
review. Visit https://docs.coderabbit.ai/cli?utm_source=ghpr

A test for a hang fails fast instead of hanging CI. Run the paths CI skips
(multi-GPU, GPU-only) when the change touches them, and state in the PR what
you ran and what you did not.
