| The script also lists `Nemotron-SFT-Instruction-Following-Chat-v2 / reasoning_on` and `Nemotron-Agentic-v1 / tool_calling`; in our run they contributed no records (tool-calling rows are not text-only chat), so the blend has no agentic data. Use the documented repository path for helper commands.
The workflow specifies a repository mount at /opt/Model-Optimizer, but does not instruct users to change into that directory. This command, and the scale-helper command in Line 168, fail when launched from another working directory. Use absolute paths for both helpers, as the PTQ and export commands do.

Reject an export with no matching attention layers.
If the exported weight names do not match K_PROJ, attention is empty. The script then reports zero additions and exits successfully, although the tutorial requires scales for eight attention layers. Check the expected layer count before modifying the checkpoint so an incompatible export fails clearly.

Preserve scales already stored in the KV-scale shard.
If weight_map already points some scales to model-kv-scales.safetensors but other scales are missing, save_file(scales, ...) replaces the shard with only the missing scales. The index still points to the discarded tensors, so the checkpoint cannot load correctly. Merge with the existing shard before writing, or reject this partial-update state without changing the shard.

Stream each dataset before taking the requested rows.
Without streaming=True, load_dataset downloads and caches dataset files before applying this small split slice. The competitive-programming source alone is listed at 190 GB. This can exhaust disk or delay data preparation even though the script needs only a few thousand rows. Load the named split in streaming mode and bound iteration to want * 3 rows. (huggingface.co)

Provide the PTQ recipe before presenting this as a reproduction command.
The tutorial says the required mixed-precision recipe will be published later. /path/to/recipe.yaml therefore has no supplied recipe to reference. A reader cannot reproduce the PTQ checkpoint, and the QAD and export steps depend on that checkpoint. Include the recipe or state that this workflow cannot run until the recipe is available.

examples/megatron_bridge/tutorials/NemotronH-Omni-W4A4-QAD: the data blend, PTQ, KD-only QAD, HF export and vLLM serving settings behind the reported results for a NemotronH_Omni_Reasoning_V3 checkpoint, with two helpers: build_qad_blend.py (materializes the public chat blend) and add_nvfp4_kv_scales.py (writes the 1/6 k/v scales that constant-amax NVFP4 KV quantizers imply, which the export does not emit). The rules used Hugging Face names only, so under Megatron-Bridge attention (linear_qkv / linear_proj), lm_head (output_layer) and the MTP block-1 experts (mtp.layers.0.mtp_model_layer.layers.1) silently stayed BF16. List both spellings where they differ, as the Lightning recipes do; each is inert on the other framework. Adds a Megatron-Core-named case to the recipe test. Use model_type/nemotron_h/ptq/nvfp4-aggressive-mse for PTQ: FP8 KV cast and NVFP4 MTP block-1 experts. Drop add_nvfp4_kv_scales.py, which only served the NVFP4 KV cast, and serve with an FP8 KV cache. The reported results come from the earlier NVFP4-KV variant and are marked as such until they are refreshed. [IMPORTANT Algorithm] When a row has <extra_id_*> markers but the regex parses zero turns, the fall-through emits the raw marker text as assistant content, training the model to produce its own control tokens.
The control flow:
if "<extra_id_" in text:
turns = [...]
if turns:
return {"messages": turns}
return {"messages": [{"role": "assistant", "content": text}]} # <-- reached with markers intactturns comes out empty whenever TURN finds no <extra_id_\d+> immediately followed by User/Assistant/System, or every captured body strips to empty. Nemotron-SFT-General rows that open with a bare <extra_id_0> and no role word, or use any marker spelling outside those three roles, land here. The row is then emitted as a single assistant turn whose content still contains the literal <extra_id_1>User / <extra_id_1>Assistant strings.
Why it matters: with --sft_loss_mode assistant the loss covers that whole assistant turn, so the student is distilled toward emitting turn-delimiter tokens mid-response. There is no loud failure and no row count anomaly — the mixture sizes come out exactly as planned, so the only symptom is degraded generation (stray delimiters, early-terminating turns) attributed to QAD rather than to the data. That makes it the "silently ignore a route" case AGENTS.md asks to avoid, and it sits on the one path in this script with no test: test_to_chat_handles_all_three_row_shapes covers markers-with-turns and no-markers-at-all, but not markers-without-turns.
The two branches should be mutually exclusive — a row claiming markers that cannot be parsed into turns is malformed, not plain text:
if "<extra_id_" in text:
turns = [
{"role": ROLE[r], "content": c.strip()} for r, c in TURN.findall(text) if c.strip()
]
# A row with markers that parses to nothing is malformed, not plain text: falling through
# would train the raw <extra_id_*> delimiters as assistant content.
return {"messages": turns} if turns else None
return {"messages": [{"role": "assistant", "content": text}]}Returning None routes it through the existing dropped counter, so a source that is mostly malformed trips the only N/want usable rows guard instead of quietly contributing poisoned rows. Worth a test case alongside the other three shapes — e.g. to_chat({"text": "<extra_id_0>\nraw body\n"}, "text") is None.
If some real source genuinely needs the lenient fall-through, dropping the markers before wrapping (re.sub(r"<extra_id_\d+>", "", text)) keeps the row without teaching the tokens.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Confirmed on current head 727e083: to_chat with text <extra_id_0> followed by a newline and raw body returns one assistant message containing that marker. The Megatron-Bridge text-only filter accepts it, so this remains an actionable data-integrity issue. Please reject marker-bearing rows when no turns parse, and add a regression test.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 3f27de4: a text row whose <extra_id_*> markers parse to no turns now returns None and is dropped, so a mostly-malformed source trips the short-source error instead. Regression case added to test_to_chat_handles_all_three_row_shapes. The production blend has no such rows (no <extra_id_ in train.jsonl/validation.jsonl) and still rebuilds byte-identical.

Fixed in 3f27de4: marker-bearing rows that parse to no turns now return None and are dropped; regression test added ("<extra_id_0>\nraw body\n" → None). The production blend is unaffected and still rebuilds byte-identical.

[SUGGESTION] The MCore skeleton omits the audio branch that the HF skeleton deliberately models, so test_megatron_core_names_get_the_same_formats can't enforce the guard the recipe comment promises.
_nemotron_h() builds sound_projector.sound_encoder.layers with an _Attention(relative=True), and the module docstring plus the recipe's lines 180-185 explain why that matters: an enabled audio quantizer exports an FP8 weight scale with no activation scale. _nemotron_h_mcore() builds vision_model and vision_projector but no audio subtree, so the test's enabled == expected assertion is blind to it — and the recipe has no Megatron-Core-named audio guard (see my comment on the linear_qkv rules).
Adding the subtree makes the test assert the property instead of merely not contradicting it:
model.sound_projector = nn.Module()
model.sound_projector.sound_encoder = nn.Module()
model.sound_projector.sound_encoder.layers = nn.ModuleList([_mcore_attention()])The existing *sound_encoder* / *sound_projector* disables come after the attention rules, so this should pass as-is if those guards reach the Megatron-Core names — in which case the test is now evidence for that, which is the point. If it fails, it has found the gap. Either outcome is more useful than silence.
Same reasoning applies to the docstring at lines 164-168: it enumerates what the skeleton covers ("the language model sits under language_model…"), and stating that the audio branch is intentionally absent — or adding it — keeps the two skeletons' coverage comparable.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 3f27de4: _nemotron_h_mcore() now includes sound_projector.sound_encoder.layers with Megatron-Core attention, and the projector as vision_projection with an attention layer under it. test_megatron_core_names_get_the_same_formats passes unchanged, so the guards reach the Megatron-Core names. The docstring notes that Bridge builds no audio branch.

[SUGGESTION] The export command omits --export_extra_modules, but the surrounding prose says the MTP head is exported.
The bullet right below reads "The exporter writes the quantized language model, including the MTP head", and Section 2 says "The MTP head is quantized too, so the exported checkpoint has it in the serving format". In export_quantized_megatron_to_hf.py:196:
export_extra_modules = has_extra_modules and args.export_extra_modulesargs.export_extra_modules defaults to False (line 110), so as written the command resolves it to False and export_mcore_gpt_to_hf takes the exporter.save_pretrained(...) branch rather than save_pretrained_extra_modules(...) (unified_export_megatron.py:2335-2338).
Two readings, and I can't tell which from here:
- If NemotronH's MTP rides through the ordinary
language_model.mapping — plausible, sincemcore_nemotron.py:160-166notes the MTP inner attention/MoE layers "reuse the base rules above viais_mtp=True", andhas_extra_modulesonly tests foreagle_module/medusa_heads, neither of which an MTP checkpoint has — then the command is correct and the flag is irrelevant. Worth one clause saying so, because a reader who sees--export_extra_modulesin--helpdescribed as "Export extra modules such as Medusa heads, EAGLE, or MTP" will reasonably conclude it was forgotten. - If MTP needs the flag, the command is missing it and the exported checkpoint would lack the head.
Your Testing notes say the export ran at PP4 "including the NVFP4 MTP experts" and that all 3,096 MTP tensors were verified, so the first reading is likely right — in which case a short note ("the MTP head exports through the standard language-model mapping; --export_extra_modules is for EAGLE/Medusa and is not needed here") preempts the question for the next reader.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Clarified in 3f27de4: the MTP head exports through the standard language-model mapping (has_extra_modules only looks for EAGLE/Medusa), so --export_extra_modules is not needed. Our export without it contains all 4,120 MTP tensors. The README now says so under the export command.

Full review of all 8 changed files (+698/-5); every one opened. The trigger comment was a bare /claude review, so no scoping was applied.
The tutorial itself is well-built: every flag in the PTQ, QAD and export invocations exists in the actual scripts with the semantics the README claims, the recipe additions are genuinely additive on the Hugging Face side, and the blend builder's atomic-write / cache-reuse / fail-loud behavior is real and well-tested. My findings are mostly about the Megatron-Core half of the recipe being less symmetric than its comments assert, plus one data-path bug.
Most impactful
1. *output_layer.* FP8 is silently dropped on tied-embedding checkpoints (IMPORTANT, recipe L155-163)
megatron.py:552-555 returns from sharded_state_dict before collecting quantizer state when output_layer is tied, and that branch emits no warning. On a tied NemotronH checkpoint the sequence is: calibrate FP8 lm_head → save drops the state → reload/export is BF16, with no error and no log line. This is a model_type/ recipe, so it applies to every NemotronH checkpoint run through examples/megatron_bridge/quantize.py, not only the (presumably untied) omni VL model these results came from.
2. New self_attention.linear_qkv/linear_proj rules are not fenced off from the audio tower (IMPORTANT, recipe L91-103)
The HF attention rules are contained by the enable: false guards at the file's end — that is what the comment at L180-185 is about. On the Megatron side vision_model./vision_projector. are covered, but there is no sound_*/audio_* Megatron-Core guard, so a Megatron-Core-named Parakeet encoder would get FP8 enabled: exactly the 'FP8 weight scale with no activation scale' layer that comment warns against. The new MCore test skeleton has no audio branch, so enabled == expected cannot catch it either (test note). If the bridge never materializes that subtree, that is a fine answer — it just needs saying, since the comment currently reads as covering both frameworks.
3. to_chat emits raw <extra_id_*> markers as assistant content (IMPORTANT, build_qad_blend.py L109-118)
A row that contains markers but parses to zero turns falls through to the plain-text branch with the delimiters intact. Under --sft_loss_mode assistant the loss then trains the student to emit its own control tokens. There is no count anomaly, so the only symptom is degraded generation blamed on QAD. I suggested making the two branches mutually exclusive, so malformed rows go through the existing dropped counter and the short-source guard instead of contributing silently.
The two SUGGESTIONs are the MCore test-skeleton gap and a missing --export_extra_modules clarification in the export command.
Risk: low-to-moderate. Nothing here can corrupt a checkpoint or break an existing user script — the HF rules are untouched and the new ones are inert on Hub models, so backward compatibility is as the description claims. The two recipe findings are silent-degradation paths on checkpoint shapes this PR did not exercise (tied embeddings; a Megatron-named audio tower), and finding 3 affects anyone who reuses the blend script on marker-bearing sources. The measured results stand regardless.
Not verified by me
modelopt_recipes/ptq.md,examples/megatron_bridge/README.md,tutorials/README.md: read in the diff; doc-only and consistent with the recipe.- I could not run
tests/unit/examples/test_build_qad_blend.pyortests/unit/recipe/test_nemotron_h_recipe.pyin this environment, so the test claims in the description — including that the new recipe test fails on the pre-change recipe — are unverified by me. The reported benchmark numbers and the multi-node QAD run are likewise taken as stated.

… malformed blend rows - The recipe notes that the Megatron-Core output_layer rule needs untied embeddings. - It guards vision_projection, Megatron-Bridge's name for the projector, and says the audio guards also cover Megatron-Core attention names. The Megatron-Core test skeleton gains the projector and an audio branch so the test pins both guards. - build_qad_blend.py drops a text row whose turn markers parse to nothing, instead of training the raw markers as assistant content. - The tutorial notes that the MTP head exports without --export_extra_modules. There was a problem hiding this comment.
[IMPORTANT Algorithm] TURN only ends a turn at a role-bearing marker, so any <extra_id_N> that is not followed by User/Assistant/System is absorbed into the preceding turn's content.
The lookahead is (?=<extra_id_\d+>(?:User|Assistant|System)|\Z). For the last turn there is no following role marker, so the capture runs to \Z — and c.strip() only removes whitespace. Concretely, for the NeMo chat convention that terminates the final turn with a bare delimiter:
<extra_id_0>System\n\n<extra_id_1>User\nhello\n<extra_id_1>Assistant\nworld\n<extra_id_1>
the assistant message comes out as "world\n<extra_id_1>" — the control token is inside the trained content. Under the tutorial's --sft_loss_mode assistant the loss is computed on exactly those tokens, so the student is trained to emit its own turn delimiter. The same applies to any non-role marker mid-text (e.g. a SteerLM-style <extra_id_2>quality:4 label line), which lands in the assistant content rather than being stripped.
Why it matters: this is the residual of the failure mode the comment at L109-110 guards against. That fix covers rows parsing to zero turns; a row that parses into valid turns but carries a trailing terminator passes every check — to_chat returns a well-formed conversation, is_text_only_chat_example accepts it, dropped does not increment, and the short-source guard sees nothing. There is no count anomaly, so the only symptom would be degraded generation attributed to QAD. The 20/92 weight on Nemotron-SFT-General is the largest single share of the blend. test_to_chat_handles_all_three_row_shapes only exercises marker text without a trailing terminator, so neither behavior is pinned today.
I could not fetch nvidia/Nemotron-Pretraining-SFT-v1 from this environment to confirm whether its text rows carry the trailing delimiter, so the impact on your actual run is unverified — but the regex property above holds regardless of the data, and the fix is inert if the terminator is absent:
| TURN = re.compile( | |
| r"<extra_id_\d+>(User|Assistant|System)\n?(.*?)(?=<extra_id_\d+>(?:User|Assistant|System)|\Z)", | |
| re.DOTALL, | |

| TURN = re.compile( | |
| r"<extra_id_\d+>(User|Assistant|System)\n?(.*?)(?=<extra_id_\d+>|\Z)", | |
| re.DOTALL, | |
| ) |
Dropping the role requirement from the lookahead makes every <extra_id_N> a content boundary, so a trailing delimiter or a label marker terminates the turn instead of being trained. Worth a test case with a trailing <extra_id_1> alongside the three existing row shapes. If you confirm the sources never emit one, a one-line note saying so would be enough — the current comment reads as if all marker handling is covered.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 744313b with the suggested lookahead ((?=<extra_id_\d+>|\Z)), so any <extra_id_N> ends a turn's content; test_to_chat_handles_all_three_row_shapes now covers a trailing <extra_id_1> (assistant content comes out as "world"). On the data question: the production train.jsonl / validation.jsonl contain no <extra_id_ string at all, so no trained row carried a trailing or label marker, and the change does not alter the blend the results were trained on.
A bare marker, such as a trailing terminator or a label line, no longer lands in the previous turn's trained content. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Yue <yueshen@nvidia.com>

Done in 9c85f6f, on top of #2791 ([1/2]). The tutorial now ships a data_blend.yaml prepared with prepare_megatron_data_blend, and build_qad_blend.py is gone.
One difference from the Qwen blend: this recipe distills only on assistant tokens (--sft --sft_hf_dataset ... --sft_loss_mode assistant), and tokenized .bin/.idx data carries no loss mask. So #2791 adds a chat JSONL output mode to the same tool (output_format: chat_jsonl, with target_samples, shuffle and seed) that writes train.jsonl / validation.jsonl for that path, so future QAD examples can use either mode from one YAML format. Built from scratch, its output is byte-identical (sha256) to the data the published QAD run trained on, so the results table stands.

Is this correct? How does the student outperform the teacher by ~4 pp?
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Yes, the numbers are correct, but the gain is mostly answer formatting, not knowledge. MMLU-ProX counts a response only if it ends with the answer phrase in the question's language (e.g. "Die Antwort ist (X)"). For the PTQ checkpoint, 11.3% of the 117,590 responses had no answer the scorer could read; after QAD, 5.4%. On responses with a readable answer, accuracy is 83.9 (PTQ) vs. 85.8 (QAD), so only about 2 of the 6.7 points are real accuracy.
The gap is concentrated in Japanese, Korean, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish prompts, where PTQ misses the answer phrase in 20–30% of responses (Italian: 59.4 → 78.9); English, German and French barely move. BF16's 76.9 is consistent with the same formatting loss, though I don't have its responses to confirm. I added a note under the results table in 9c85f6f.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
#2720 also added a note under the results table (line 29) covering this: most of the MMLU-ProX gain is fewer responses missing the answer phrase, and on responses with a readable answer accuracy goes from 83.9 to 85.8.
Replace build_qad_blend.py with data_blend.yaml for the chat JSONL mode of prepare_megatron_data_blend (#2791), which produces byte-identical train/validation files. Explain the MMLU-ProX gain under the results. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Yue <yueshen@nvidia.com>

Any vision or long-context benchmark results? Or are they out of scope for the tutorial?
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Long context: AA-LCR is in the table (prompts average about 108k tokens), and QAD stays within 0.7 points of BF16 there (67.94 vs. 68.63). Vision: the tutorial reports no vision benchmarks. QAD trains the language model on text only and leaves the vision tower and projector in BF16, so we kept the tutorial to text. I've sent you a link to our internal eval dashboard with more results for these checkpoints.

Set `output_dir` in that file, then write the blend as chat JSONL with the [chat JSONL mode of `prepare_megatron_data_blend`](../../../dataset/MEGATRON_DATA_PREP.md#chat-jsonl-blends-for-assistant-only-loss): |

Does text-only training affect vision benchmark accuracy recovery (related to my vision benchmark question in the benchmark results section)?
There was a problem hiding this comment.
We haven't measured it. The vision tower and projector are neither quantized nor trained (they are copied unchanged from the BF16 checkpoint), but the language model sees only text during QAD, so whether its image-conditioned accuracy recovers as well as its text accuracy is open.

Fixed in #2863 (54a6ce0): Section 5 now lists --enable-mamba-cache-stochastic-rounding and --mamba-cache-philox-rounds 5, the flags in the eval jobs' vllm serve command. It also corrects the conv-cache row to --mamba-cache-dtype float32 (the flag the runs used, not --mamba-conv-cache-dtype) and notes that MMLU-ProX was served at --max-model-len 32768.

Is this sufficient - esp. for long context recovery (related to my long-context benchmark question in the benchmarks section)?
There was a problem hiding this comment.
For AA-LCR, yes: the same 600-iteration QAD at a 64k sequence length (context parallel 8) scored 67.31, vs. 67.94 at 32k and 68.63 for BF16, so doubling the length did not help. That is one run on one benchmark and within run-to-run noise, and 32k trains about twice as fast (44 s vs. 98 s per iteration).

) ### What does this PR do? Type of change: New feature `prepare_megatron_data_blend` writes tokenized `.bin`/`.idx` data, which has no loss mask, so `--data_paths` training computes the loss on every token. Recipes that distill only on assistant responses use Megatron-Bridge's chat path instead (`distill.py --sft --sft_hf_dataset ... --sft_loss_mode assistant`), which reads chat JSONL and applies the model's chat template and assistant mask itself. Until now each such recipe needed its own blend script. `output_format: chat_jsonl` writes the same YAML-defined weighted sources as `train.jsonl` / `validation.jsonl` (one `{"messages": [...]}` per line) for that path: - `target_samples` sets the row budget; each source contributes `round(target_samples * weight / sum(weights))` rows. It is required, since the selected rows are mixed in memory. - `content_field` must be `messages` or `text`. Rows are kept only if Megatron-Bridge's `is_text_only_chat_example` accepts them, judged on the converted conversation plus the source row's top-level media keys. A `text` row without markers becomes one assistant turn, so all of it is trained. A `text` row with the `<extra_id_1>User` / `Assistant` / `System` markers is split into turns. It is dropped if it has text before the first marker, a marker has any other role (a Tool turn, a SteerLM label line), a role name is not followed by a newline, or a turn other than `System` is empty. Any row with no assistant turn is dropped, since assistant-only loss trains nothing in it. - `messages` go through `prepare_messages_for_chat_template`, like the tokenizing mode, so `tool_calls` arguments are normalized, and a row's `tools` list and top-level `system` prompt are kept for the chat path. `reasoning_content` (`native` / `inline` / `strip`) defaults to `native`, unlike the tokenizing mode's `inline`: Bridge applies the model's chat template at training time, and templates such as Nemotron 3's render `reasoning_content` themselves. Use `inline` for a template that ignores the field. - `shuffle: false` takes the first rows of each split in order (default: a buffer shuffle); `seed` seeds that shuffle, the cross-source mix and the `min(1000, n // 20)` validation hold-out. `files` may be `.jsonl` or `.jsonl.gz`; malformed records are skipped with a warning, as in the tokenizing reader. - A source that fails to load, has no usable rows or runs short stops the run; a source whose weight rounds to zero rows is skipped. Each source is cached atomically under `<output_dir>/parts`, keyed by the settings that select its rows, so an interrupted run resumes and a changed configuration selects afresh. `parts` can be deleted once `train.jsonl` is written. The tokenizing mode is unchanged, except that it now rejects the chat-only keys instead of ignoring them. Each entry point rejects a config whose `output_format` belongs to the other. This is [1/2]; #2720 [2/2] uses it for the NemotronH omni VL QAD tutorial (replacing that tutorial's `build_qad_blend.py`) and merges after this one. ### Usage ```yaml output_dir: /path/to/chat_blend output_format: chat_jsonl target_samples: 36_800 shuffle: false seed: 1234 sources: - hf_dataset: nvidia/Nemotron-Pretraining-SFT-v1 config: Nemotron-SFT-General split: train content_field: text weight: 20 - hf_dataset: nvidia/Nemotron-SFT-Math-v3 config: default split: train content_field: messages weight: 17 ``` ```bash python -m modelopt.torch.utils.plugins.prepare_megatron_data_blend --config blend.yaml python examples/megatron_bridge/distill.py ... --sft --sft_hf_dataset /path/to/chat_blend/train.jsonl \ --sft_hf_validation /path/to/chat_blend/validation.jsonl --sft_loss_mode assistant ``` ### Testing - `tests/gpu_megatron/torch/utils/plugins/test_prepare_megatron_data_blend.py`: 28 passed in the NeMo 26.08 container with Megatron-Bridge `main` (2 existing, 26 new, consolidated per review). They cover the row shapes (leading text, unknown-role and label markers, roles without a newline, empty turns, rows without an assistant turn), `tools` and `reasoning_content` handling, the text-only filter and give-up rule, sources without usable rows, `.jsonl.gz` and malformed records in `files`, the weighted split with a zero-weight source, config validation (budgets, weights, a missing `target_samples`, `content_field`, `output_format`, the other mode's keys), cache reuse and rebuild, no reuse after a changed selection, atomic writes, and failing or short sources. Reverting each review fix of the last three rounds (14 in all) one at a time makes at least one test fail. - End to end: the 11-source blend of #2720, built from scratch with this mode, is byte-identical (sha256 of `train.jsonl` and `validation.jsonl`) to the data that tutorial's published QAD run trained on; re-checked on the latest commit. ### Before your PR is "*Ready for review*" - Is this change backward compatible?: ✅ The default output and the tokenizing path are unchanged; only configs that set the new chat-only keys without `output_format: chat_jsonl` are now rejected. - Did you write any new necessary tests?: ✅ - Did you update [Changelog](https://github.com/NVIDIA/Model-Optimizer/blob/main/CHANGELOG.rst)?: ✅ 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit * **New Features** * Added chat JSONL output for weighted dataset blends, creating `train.jsonl` and `validation.jsonl` files for chat training workflows with assistant-only loss configuration. * Supports conversations from message or text fields, configurable sample targets, shuffling, seeds, and reasoning-content handling. * Reuses cached source selections and filters unusable records. Post-merge review. #2791 and this PR are both on main now. A few small items for a follow-up PR:
- Serving setup can't be reproduced (
README.md:173). The "Mamba cache rounding | stochastic rounding, 5 Philox rounds" row has no vLLM flag names, unlike every other row. Someone serving the checkpoint gets vLLM's default rounding and can't match the reported scores. Please list the exact engine flags and values (this is also @kokrommy's open thread on that line). - No
CHANGELOG.rstentry. The Qwen3.6-35B-A3B tutorial has a New Features entry with a link; this tutorial should get a one-liner next to it. - Open reviewer questions. @kokrommy's threads on vision and long-context results (
README.md:17,:43,:120) would close with a one-line scope statement in the README. @meenchen's MMLU-ProX question (README.md:24) is answered by the note at line 29, but nobody replied in the thread. - Pending item from #2791. In
_take_chat_rows, one malformedfiles:row (e.g.{"messages": "hello"}) still fails the whole source as "failed to read or convert", where the tokenizing mode skips the record. See #2791 (comment). A non-stringtextvalue is also kept as list content: #2791 (comment).
What I checked: data_blend.yaml loads with the merged chat JSONL mode in nemo:26.08. The per-source budgets (2000 … 800) sum to exactly 36,800, which gives 35,800 train / 1,000 validation as the README says. Every PTQ, QAD and export flag in the tutorial exists on main. The two claude[bot] recipe threads are already covered (the later *vision_model* / *radio_model* / *vision_projection* disables keep the vision tower in BF16, and the tied output_layer is documented), so those can be resolved.

nvfp4-aggressive-mse.yaml): its rules used Hugging Face module names only, so under Megatron-Bridge attention,lm_headand the MTP block-1 experts silently stayed BF16.
