Fixes #287 Also called Bug 5.
Fix made by Brian with Claude. Seems reasonable but I don't understand it. It might include some unneeded code for coupling rotational DOFs on independent grid points but that shouldn't matter because those aren't allowed in Mystran.
Corresponding PR with Claude's test case in validation suite.
