Summary

Automates a GitHub Release after the Python CI workflow succeeds for a same-repository push to master.

  • Adds a master-targeted PR title policy based on Conventional Commits.
  • Configures Python Semantic Release to derive vX.Y.Z tags from reviewed squash-merge titles.
  • Tags the exact CI-tested SHA, then rebuilds wheel and sdist after tagging so setuptools-scm embeds the release version.
  • Verifies distribution count and metadata, installs the wheel outside the checkout, and attaches the verified files to the GitHub Release.
  • Adds idempotent rerun checks and a manual workflow that repairs only missing assets on an existing immutable tag.
  • Keeps PyPI publication disabled until the SmallPackage distribution-name ownership issue is resolved.

Validation

  • python3 -m unittest discover -s tests -v (70 passed)
  • git diff --check

Operational follow-up

Before merging through to master, protect master, require the Python CI checks including Release policy, prevent direct/force pushes, and use squash merges.
