This project was inspired by an encryption method named after the Roman General Gaius Julius Caesar. In 50 BC (Before Christ) Caesar cipher was used to secure strategical plans during the Gallic Wars. The process involved encoding and decoding messages, so they could not be intercepted by people without the corresponding cipher key.
Within this application you can encode and decode messages, this is completed by identifying all the characters within a message and converting them into their Unicode values. Then the cipher key provided by the user is added or subtracted to all the Unicode values, therefore shifting the message characters alongside the alphabet to generate a new message. To help with readability, each Unicode value is then converted back to its matching character value.
This application was built using Python (v3.13) on Visual Studio Code.
