By combining modern web technologies with a highly optimized systems backend, BetterFly provides a living companion that reacts to its environment, shares its mood, and provides fun commentary—all while using virtually zero system resources.
Unlike older virtual pets that get trapped in clunky window borders, BetterFly renders directly on top of your desktop as a completely transparent overlay. It feels like it naturally belongs on your screen.
Your companion isn't just a static image! It features a built-in Dialogue Engine that allows it to:

Because BetterFly runs constantly in the background, performance is critical. BetterFly is engineered to consume mere megabytes of RAM and barely touch your CPU. Gamers rejoice!
Never worry about manually downloading new versions. BetterFly silently checks this repository for new releases. When an update is ready, a beautiful glass-morphic prompt will appear in your dashboard, downloading and installing the new patch in seconds.
Getting BetterFly running on your machine takes less than 60 seconds!
- Navigate to the Releases Tab on the right side of this repository.
- Download the latest
BetterFly_x64-setup.exefile under Assets. - Double-click the
.exefile to run the installer. - Once installed, BetterFly will launch automatically, and your new companion will appear on your screen!
Note for Windows Users: If Windows SmartScreen pops up, simply click "More Info" and then "Run Anyway". This happens automatically for all new, indie desktop apps until they build up a reputation score with Microsoft.
Want BetterFly to always be there when you turn on your PC?
- Right-click on your companion and select Dashboard.
- Navigate to the Settings tab.
- Toggle on Launch on Startup.
BetterFly will now start completely silently in the background every time you boot Windows!
