Summary

  • Read the user's login shell PATH before launching Node/npm commands from the macOS GUI app.
  • Keep common fallback locations for Node managers, including ~/n/bin, ~/.n/bin, Volta, npm global, nodenv, asdf, and Homebrew.
  • Reuse the enriched process environment for skills add/remove commands.
  • Add SwiftPM tests covering minimal GUI PATH and login-shell PATH priority.

Root Cause

macOS GUI apps often start with a minimal PATH. SkillsUI only added Homebrew paths, so Node and the globally installed skills CLI were missed when installed under user-level managers such as n.

Validation

  • DEVELOPER_DIR=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer swift test --scratch-path /tmp/skills-ui-test-pr
  • Verified /bin/zsh -lic exposes /Users/chenli/n/bin on this machine.
