Magnification

  • Target is 100%
  • Standards allow a range between 80% and 200%

X-Dimension / Module Width

The width/offset of a single bar. Other bars are a multiple of this X-dimension.

  • 0.33 mm (100%)

Bar Width Reduction (BWR)

An adjustment to compensate for dot gain. If your printer tells you that the line width will increase by 0.01mm, you should use a Bar Width Reduction value of 0.01 mm. Keep in mind that this is scale independent and it does not change the (Module) Width or X-Dimension of the symbol but instead affects the final bar widths only. You can enter a negative value if you want to print thicker and not thinner bars.

Note: The GS1 specification recommends that for digits 1, 2, 7, 8 the dark and light modules are reduced/enlarged by one-thirteenth of module-width to provide a uniform distribution of bar width tolerances. (and thereby improving scanning reliability). ID Barcode Maker tries to generate perfect barcodes based on given DPI adjustments instead, so there is less need for the tolerance distribution.

Bar Height

  • 16 mm (Absolute minimum)

Quiet Zone dimensions

Extra space must be provided to allow for printing variations. This space increases or decreases linear with magnification of symbol.

  • 3.75 mm (More recommended)

Placing requirements

  • The barcode must be no closer than 8 mm to a seam or packaging fold
  • For small cylindrical products, the barcode must be positioned vertically (ladder orientation)
