Vercel Web Analytics Implementation

Successfully implemented Vercel Web Analytics for the langfAIx static site.

What was implemented

Added Vercel Web Analytics tracking to the static HTML site located in the site/ directory.

Changes made

Modified files:

  • site/index.html - Added Vercel Analytics script tags to the <head> section

Implementation details

After fetching the latest documentation from https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/quickstart and https://community.vercel.com/t/using-vercels-analytics-with-no-framework/3194, I identified that this project uses a static HTML site without any build framework or package manager.

For static HTML sites, Vercel Analytics is implemented by adding two script tags:

  1. Analytics initialization script: Creates the window.va function to queue analytics events
  2. Analytics loader script: Deferred script that loads from /_vercel/insights/script.js

The scripts were added in the <head> section after the meta tags and icon links, but before the existing inline scripts. This placement ensures:

  • Analytics loads early in the page lifecycle
  • No interference with existing JavaScript functionality
  • Clean separation with appropriate comments

Framework identification

The site is a vanilla HTML/CSS/JavaScript static site with no build tooling. The index.html file includes:

  • Static HTML markup
  • Inline CSS styles
  • Inline JavaScript for language switching
  • No npm dependencies or package.json

This required the static HTML implementation approach rather than the framework-specific methods (Next.js, React, etc.).

No additional steps required

Since this is a static HTML site:

  • ✅ No package installation needed (no package.json exists)
  • ✅ No build process to run
  • ✅ No dependencies to install
  • ✅ No lock files to update
  • ✅ No linting configuration present
  • ✅ No test suite to run

The implementation is complete and ready for deployment. Once deployed to Vercel, the analytics will automatically start tracking page views and other metrics.

Verification

To verify the implementation works after deployment:

  1. Visit the deployed site in an incognito/private browser window
  2. Open browser DevTools → Network tab
  3. Look for a request to /_vercel/insights/script.js
  4. Check the Vercel dashboard Analytics section for incoming data
