Re-enabling the long-handed inserter recipe prevents setting changes

I'm running into the same problem reported there: I have un-checked "Hide Long-Handed Inserter's Recipe" in settings (in my case, in order to be able to more easily use blueprints I made before I found this mod). I just tried to make a fast inserter long, and it didn't work. Clicking the toggle appears like it switches to "long" then immediately switches back, but I'm not sure if that's what's really going on or not. I couldn't find any error messaging either on screen, in the console, or in the log file.

If there's anything I can do to help track down/debug this, I'd be happy to.

Out of curiosity I re-hid the recipe and changed a few inserters to long. Then I saved and un-hid the recipe again. The inserters that I changed stayed long, but I was still unable to make any new ones long. I also tried copy/pasting the settings (shift-click) and blueprinting/pasting the existing long inserters, but neither of those worked.
