README: link Flatline Roundtable and conveyor in the first lines; add banner, PyPI install, drop Codeberg badge #436

Closed

Description

@CryptoJones

Prerequisites: #429 (merged; it added #428 to BACKLOG.md) and #428, the conveyor deployment. The conveyor link should describe something omind actually runs, so this lands after #428 is done.

Goal: add links to Flatline Roundtable and conveyor in the first couple of lines of README.md. Both are part of how omind is built and reviewed. The roundtable cross-reviews every PR across models, and conveyor runs the backlog factory (#428).

While in the README header:

  • Add the centered project banner as the very first line, as every one of the owner's repos requires. It's missing today:
    <p align="center"><em>Proudly Made in Nebraska. Go Big Red! 🌽 <a href="https://xkcd.com/2347/">https://xkcd.com/2347/</a></em></p>
  • Remove the stale Codeberg badge. Codeberg is end-of-life, and GitHub is the only remote.
  • Install from PyPI (folded in 2026-10-28): omind has been on PyPI since 10.3.4 ([Priority 7 / P3] First PyPI publish of omind package (v8.8.0+) #267, feat(release): publish releases to PyPI with an API token (#267) #491). Make uv tool install omind the primary install command in the install section (README.md around line 113). Keep uv tool install git+https://github.com/CryptoJones/omind.git as the from-source option, and add a PyPI version badge beside the others.

Acceptance:

  • Lines 1–5 of README.md contain the banner and one short sentence linking both projects. The sentence says what each one does for omind.
  • The Codeberg badge is gone.
  • The install section leads with uv tool install omind, and the git install is still documented.
  • Markdown renders correctly on GitHub.

🏭 Factory groom — groomed. An agent can pick this up as written. Edit the description or reply here and it gets reviewed again on a later tick.

I've read the issue, the README header, #428's status and the backlog. Here is my verdict.

    Rationale

This is one small docs PR, and it can land now.

The prerequisite is met in substance. #428 is still open, but only on one Definition-of-done item: a factory PR with green CI. The deployment itself is done, per the owner's 2026-10-02 status comment on #428. The factory runs on dl380 from conveyor-tick.timer, it has groomed issues live, and it's documented in docs/conveyor-factory.md. So the point of the gate holds: the conveyor link describes something omind actually runs. That last open item doesn't change what the README sentence would say, so I'm not blocking this on #428 closing.

    The header changes are correct:

    • Banner. AGENTS.md says "the README carries the centred banner version". Today the README has only the plain footer (last line of README.md) and no centred <p align="center"> banner at the top.
    • Codeberg badge. It's on README.md:7, and AGENTS.md says "GitHub is the only remote (Codeberg is end-of-life)".
    • Mirror blockquote. The block on README.md:13-15 ("Mirrored on both GitHub and Codeberg… commits are pushed to both") is false for the same reason and sits in the same header. The issue doesn't name it, but taking out the badge and leaving a paragraph that says the opposite would be wrong, so it belongs in this PR.
    • The two links. Both repos exist and are public. FlatlineRoundtable is already the review panel cited in BACKLOG.md:573 and in docs/design/2026-08-27-roadmap-consensus.md.

Left out: the Codeberg mentions in the install section (README.md:95, README.md:119-120). They are tied to scripts/bootstrap.sh --remote codeberg, so removing them is a behaviour question about the bootstrap script, not a header fix.
