PR created automatically by Jules for task 4443102453971491413 started by @seonghobae

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request adds a registered json_formatter tool. It formats valid JSON with two-space indentation and preserves non-ASCII characters. Tests cover valid and invalid input. The development dependencies now include pytest-cov.

Changes

JSON Formatter Tool

Layer / File(s) Summary
Register and test JSON formatting
backend/api/tools.py, backend/tests/test_tools_api.py, backend/pyproject.toml
The registered json_formatter tool formats valid JSON and raises a ValueError for invalid JSON. Tests check both outcomes. The development dependency group adds pytest-cov with a minimum version of 7.1.0.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 23a4a

Unusual numeric input can produce invalid JSON despite a successful result. This is a narrow edge case to fix or explicitly accept before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 23a4a

Only authenticated callers can invoke the new formatter, and it does not gain access to other services or data. However, it processes JSON without a visible input-size or execution budget, creating an additional way for a caller to consume shared API resources.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new callable formatter parses and pretty-prints caller-controlled JSON synchronously without a visible input-size or execution budget, adding an authenticated resource-exhaustion path to the shared API.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The independently reachable new action is available to authenticated tools-API callers and consumes backend API processing resources. The handler shows no access to another tenant, data store, service, or credential.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — An authenticated caller can submit large or deeply nested JSON for synchronous parsing and formatting without a visible tool-level resource bound. The resulting availability impact has not been demonstrated under production ingress limits.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Authentication is enforced at the existing router mount, and execution checks tool active state and parameter types. Those checks do not constrain the formatter input’s size or processing cost.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Unbounded text handling also predates this PR in other tool handlers; the formatter adds a distinct parsing and serialization workload rather than removing an existing control.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Apply an input-size and processing budget to formatter execution, and verify whether ingress and worker limits adequately contain expensive requests.

Cover Unicode preservation in the success test.

json_formatter_handler explicitly uses ensure_ascii=False, but the success test sends and checks only ASCII text. A regression to ensure_ascii=True would pass the current test. Add a non-ASCII value and assert that formatted_json contains the character literally.

Reject non-standard JSON numbers.

json.loads accepts NaN and Infinity, and it converts overflowing values such as 1e400 to infinity. json.dumps then returns these values as non-standard JSON while reporting success.

Reject constants with parse_constant and reject non-finite parsed floats with parse_float. Raise ValueError so the existing execute endpoint returns its normal failed result. Add tests for NaN, Infinity, and 1e400.

This is a narrow formatting edge case, so its practical impact is minor rather than major.

Pull request overview

OpenCode could not approve from deterministic current-head evidence because GitHub Checks have failed.

Findings

1. HIGH Current-head GitHub Checks - Fix failed required checks before approval

  • Problem: Failed same-head checks remain for 23a4a883093d36abaeeddc40a0dfec0d9991e965.
  • Root cause: The model-unavailable evidence fallback is allowed only when peer GitHub Checks are complete and clean.
  • Fix: Read and fix the failed check logs below, then rerun the current-head checks.
  • Regression test: Keep the model-unavailable fallback gated on an empty failed-check rollup.

Exact-head Ready-admission repair

Audited head 23a4a883093d36abaeeddc40a0dfec0d9991e965 against base 042b0c70531b229af3acbd0421a2f23098d848b3 (1 ahead / 0 behind).

Current substantive blocker evidence:

  • unresolved review threads: 1
  • active CHANGES_REQUESTED: coderabbitai,opencode-agent
  • terminal workflow failure: Security Scan=failure#36559236390, CodeQL PR=failure#36559236365

Queued/pending/in-progress Checks are not blockers and were not treated as failures. This PR is returned to Draft/Proposed while the recorded source/review/topology evidence remains. Preserve the branch; repair through a non-force commit or resolve the substantive review thread, then re-fetch current-head Checks and reviews before restoring Ready.

No merge, close, bypass, review dismissal, synthetic status/approval, manual rerun, force push, or destructive rebase is authorized by this receipt.

Dependency RCA: the Security Scan failure at exact head 23a4a883… is a shared protected-base dependency finding, not a reason to close this Draft. Dedicated owner PR #1828 carries the AnyIO/Next.js/Sharp repair, generated locks, regression contract, and recorded run/job evidence. Preserve this PR's product delta and restack it by ordinary non-force history only after #1828 is exact-head green and integrated; predecessor or queued results are not successor evidence.
