aws-security-engineering-core
Modular Terraform Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) focused on building and understanding real-world AWS security architecture.
This repository contains bare, minimal, and explicit Terraform modules that model how security controls are designed, deployed, and connected in AWS. It is not a production framework or an opinionated stack. It is an engineering reference.
The goal is to treat cloud security as a system, not a checklist.
This repo exists to:
- Break cloud security into clear, practical engineering domains
- Build Terraform modules that represent real security controls
- Understand how detection, identity, data protection, governance, and response connect
- Practice security-first infrastructure design
- Create reusable building blocks for automation and compliance workflows

This repository is intentionally:
* **Minimal** – no unnecessary abstractions
* **Explicit** – every resource is visible and understandable
* **Modular** – each service or pattern stands on its own
* **Educational** – focused on learning security architecture, not shipping products
* **Composable** – designed to integrate with policy engines, CI/CD pipelines, and remediation systems later
No frameworks.
No magic.
Just raw security engineering.

### Planned Domains
The repository is organized around six core security domains:
1. **Continuous Detection & Visibility**
Logging, monitoring, threat detection, investigation, and event correlation.
2. **Identity & Access Management (IAM)**
Least privilege, trust boundaries, identity controls, and access governance.
3. **Incident Response & Automation**
Event-driven response patterns and containment workflows.
4. **Infrastructure Security**
Network protection, service isolation, and platform hardening.
5. **Data Protection**
Encryption, secrets handling, and sensitive data controls.
6. **Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC)**
Policy enforcement, compliance mapping, and audit readiness.
---
### What This Is Not
* Not a production-ready framework
* Not an opinionated landing zone
* Not a full platform
This is the **core layer**:
the place where security architecture is learned, built, and reasoned about.
Think of it as the skeleton of a cloud security platform.
