gpPy_RASA36

CCD data-reduction pipeline for the RASA36 telescope: calibration (bias/dark/flat), astrometric solving, stacking, photometry, image subtraction, and transient search.

Acknowledgment

This is a RASA36-specific fork of the original gppy pipeline for the IMSNG/GECKO project, created mainly by Gregory S.H. Paek, with contributions from other members of the IMSNG/RASA36 collaboration over time. It is maintained here by Youngpyo Hong, who adapted and extended it for RASA36 (see CHANGELOG_pipeline.md for what changed relative to the original). If you contributed code that ended up here and would like to be credited by name, please open an issue or PR.

Usage

See CLAUDE.md for run commands, pipeline stage sequence, and known failure signatures.

python IMSNG_Routine_RASA36.py <input_folder> [ncores] [--no-stack]

Scripts

File Purpose
IMSNG_Routine_RASA36.py Main pipeline entry point: calibration → astrometry → stacking → photometry → subtraction → transient search for one input folder.
rasa36_watcher.py Watches an incoming-tar directory, extracts new tars, and launches the pipeline automatically on each extracted folder. Runs nightly reductions and same-night ToO follow-ups in separate parallel lanes so a ToO never queues behind a regular run.
rasa36_reprocess.py Batch/backfill tool: extracts any un-processed tars and runs the pipeline over them sequentially (one at a time). Shares the same processed-file bookkeeping as rasa36_watcher.py so the two never double-process a folder.
memory_watchdog.py Alert-only monitor that polls memory usage while the pipeline runs and posts a Slack warning before the server risks becoming unresponsive. It never kills or throttles processes.
rerun_failed.sh Shell helper that re-runs the pipeline sequentially over a hardcoded list of date folders (e.g. ones that previously failed at a given stage). Edit the FOLDERS array to change the batch.
setup_gpwatch_tmux.sh Shell helper that opens a tmux session with one window per observatory, each running a live resource-usage monitor for that observatory's pipeline process.

Supporting packages

  • preprocess/ — calibration-frame building and header handling (calib.py)
  • phot/ — photometry and growth-curve routines
  • util/ — shared helpers (Slack posting, logging setup, external catalog queries, robust statistics)
  • config/ — SExtractor/SCAMP/SWarp/astrometry.net config templates, per-observatory gphot.*.config files, and reference catalogs
  • table/ — static lookup tables (header-key renames, observatory locations, SED templates)

Notes

  • keys.dat (Slack bot token) is intentionally excluded — create your own with:
    name key
    slack xoxb-...

  • Large run artifacts (log/, refcat/, intermediate FITS/XML outputs) are excluded via .gitignore and are regenerated by each pipeline run.
