fix(lit): seed connected notes from props.text; render markdown task lists and multi-line headings - #78
Conversation
…lists and multi-line headings - notes: connected pads show the props.text seed immediately and keep it when no state is persisted; a persisted string (even "") wins; typing before hydration still wins; the seed is never written back until the user edits. - markdown: GFM task items (- [ ] / - [x]) render as a ☐/☑ glyph span with an aria-label (no <input>, sanitizer allowlist unchanged beyond that fixed span). - markdown: an ATX heading line ends at the newline (CommonMark), so "# Title\nbody" renders <h1> + <p>. - styles: class-qualified .dashboard-markdown heading and code/pre rules so host resets (Tailwind preflight) and host code styles don't leak in. - chore: prettier-format README.md + docs/integrations/hermes.md (main CI lint red).

…ext as a list A switch between bullet / ordered / plain lines now starts a new block, so "## Ship list\n- [x] a\n- [ ] b\nKeep …" renders <h2> + task list + <p> instead of one paragraph with raw "##" / "- [x]".
…dented ATX headings; hide ordered task markers Review follow-ups (CodeRabbit + Codex on #78): - notes: a re-render with a new props.text updates the pad while no string is persisted and the user hasn't typed; a persisted string or user input wins. - markdown: ATX headings allow 0-3 leading spaces and a marker-only line (CommonMark). - styles: task items drop the list marker in ordered lists too.

Maintainer Analysis
Changed behavior:
- Connected notes editors now display props.text as an initial seed, preserve persisted strings including empty strings, and accept seed updates until typing or hydration establishes authoritative content.
- Markdown parsing now separates ATX headings, lists, and trailing paragraphs at line boundaries and renders GFM task markers as inert checked/unchecked glyphs.
- Markdown headings, inline code, fenced code, and task-list markers receive explicit host-resistant styling.
Affected invariants:
- Persisted note strings remain authoritative over props.text, while user input must not be overwritten by asynchronous hydration or later renders.
- Markdown output remains allowlist-generated and HTML-escaped; task markers do not introduce form controls.
- List and heading parsing must not transform fenced or inline code content.
Evidence:
- packages/lit/src/renderers/notes.ts synchronously applies the seed, records persisted-string hydration, and guards seed refreshes with notesPersisted/notesDirty flags.
- packages/lit/src/markdown.ts escapes task text before inline rendering and emits only a fixed span for task glyphs.
- packages/lit/src/renderers/renderers.test.ts covers empty persisted state, asynchronous hydration races, rerendered seeds, task glyphs, code exclusions, and heading/list boundaries.
Limitations:
- Review was limited to the supplied checkout diff; no tests, builds, scripts, shell commands, or executable PR code were run.
No-finding rationale: No validated correctness, security, data-loss, CI, release, or high-signal test defect was demonstrated by the changed lines. The principal state-precedence and markdown-boundary risks introduced by the patch have focused regression coverage.

Maintainer Analysis
Changed behavior:
- Connected notes display
props.textuntil a persisted string is loaded or the user edits, and can refresh that seed on rerender. - Markdown recognizes line-bounded ATX headings, task-list markers, transitions between paragraphs and lists, and non-1 ordered-list starts.
- Markdown CSS now explicitly styles headings, code, fenced blocks, and task-item markers.
Affected invariants:
- Persisted note strings, including the empty string, take precedence over author-provided seed text.
- Markdown source is escaped before generated allowlisted HTML is emitted.
- Task markers render as inert glyphs rather than form controls.
- Markdown list indentation must preserve parent-child structure when treated as nesting.
Evidence:
- packages/lit/src/markdown.ts:157 classifies every indented bullet solely as
uland flushes any activeol. - packages/lit/src/markdown.ts
renderListstrips leading whitespace from every item and cannot retain nesting. - packages/lit/src/renderers/renderers.test.ts tests numbering around a purported nested sub-list but does not assert DOM nesting.
Limitations:
- Review was limited to the supplied checkout diff; no shell commands, tests, builds, package scripts, or arbitrary PR code were executed.
- Surrounding unchanged implementation was not inspected where it was absent from the supplied diff.
No-finding rationale: No additional correctness, injection, persistence, CI, release, or data-loss issue was validated from the supplied diff. The new HTML-producing paths escape source text, and the notes hydration guards cover the demonstrated persisted-empty and pre-hydration-edit cases.
Risk Taxonomy

There was a problem hiding this comment.
P2: Nested lists are flattened into unrelated sibling lists
The new per-line kind switch treats an indented child marker as a new top-level list and flushes its parent list. For 1. Build\n - run tests\n2. Ship, this produces sibling <ol>, <ul>, and <ol start="2"> elements rather than placing the <ul> inside the first <li>. Indentation is then discarded by renderList, so the visual and accessibility hierarchy is wrong. Either implement nesting based on indentation or avoid treating the indented marker as a nested-list feature; the new test should assert ol > li > ul, not only ordered-list numbering.
Category: Runtime correctness
Why this matters: Nested procedures and task breakdowns are presented with the wrong hierarchy, which can change their meaning and causes assistive technology to announce separate lists.
