Yes, of course, but users shouldn’t have to dig into debug error messages to understand why something isn’t working.

If it’s possible to display a clear, user-facing error message using the ZED SDK, that would provide a much better UX, in my opinion.

Adding to the discussion to put my two cents in and provide more info that may be helpful to others that come across this.

This doesn't "just work" when my project requires an older version of .NET. I use mise and have a local mise.toml file that configures the project to use .NET 8. That breaks the Roslyn LSP because it requires .NET 10.

I was able to set the .NET SDK path in Zed's settings to get this working for both dotnet CLI commands and the Roslyn LSP in Zed using the following settings:

If possible it might be nice to use whatever version of .NET is available rather than requiring the latest version.

Just like @bvosk , but for me the workaround was like this:

I was facing the same issue as @bvosk. I had a moderate success with this fork https://github.com/kevin-mueller/zed-csharp + my PR to support mise managed .NET kevin-mueller#2 (same situation: my project uses .NET 8, this extension needs .NET 10, mise installs both).

Unfortunately even with this fork + the PR (which fixes the extension loading without any config overrides), the extension itself crashes often and when crashed the LSP features are not available.
