Contributor License Agreement

vn-code is released under the AGPL-3.0-only (LICENSE), and it is offered to the public as a whole. To keep one thing possible β€” licensing vn-code commercially to somebody who cannot use the AGPL β€” the project must hold, from every contributor, the right to license their contribution under other terms as well. That is all this agreement does. You keep your copyright.

You accept it by opening a pull request that contains this sentence:

I have read the CLA in CONTRIBUTING.md and I agree to it.

1. Copyright

You retain the copyright in your contribution.

2. The grant

You grant vecnode (the project's owner) a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable license to:

  • reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense and distribute your contribution and derivative works of it;
  • relicense your contribution under other terms, including a commercial license, alone or as part of a larger work;
  • and do the same with any work that is a derivative of your contribution.

3. Patent grant

You grant a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable patent license covering any patent claim you own or control that is necessarily infringed by your contribution alone or by its combination with the project, to make, use, sell, offer for sale, import and otherwise transfer the contribution.

4. What you are asserting

  • The contribution is yours to license: you wrote it, or you have permission from its owner, and it does not carry a different license that would restrict what section 2 allows (in particular, do not contribute code under a permissive-only or copyleft-incompatible license without saying so first).
  • It contains no third-party material that you have not identified in the pull request, and no secret.
  • It is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind.

5. What this agreement does not do

It does not take your copyright, it does not require you to work on anything, and it does not oblige you to support your contribution. Your contribution is released to the public under the AGPL-3.0-only like the rest of the project β€” the extra right in section 2 belongs to the project owner, not to you over someone else's work.

If you contribute on behalf of an employer, confirm you are authorized to make this grant, or have the employer grant it in writing.
