From 00ce1961787914b224989ed9e127006c2a540ebb Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: sahilkalgutkar Date: Tue, 8 Sep 2026 22:56:14 -0400 Subject: [PATCH] Add .mailmap so the history shows one author identity The log carries three author strings for me: the current one, an older commit name of "Sahil Kalgutkar" on the same address, and the GitHub noreply address that GitHub stamps on the merge commit it writes when a PR is merged from the web. This maps all three onto one identity for git shortlog, git log and git blame. It changes no commits and rewrites no history, so every SHA and every pull request link stays exactly as it is. --- .mailmap | 9 +++++++++ 1 file changed, 9 insertions(+) create mode 100644 .mailmap diff --git a/.mailmap b/.mailmap new file mode 100644 index 0000000..ea276ef --- /dev/null +++ b/.mailmap @@ -0,0 +1,9 @@ +# One canonical identity for every commit in this repo. +# +# The history carries three author strings, all mine: +# - an older display name of "Sahil Kalgutkar" on the same address +# - the GitHub noreply address, which GitHub stamps on the merge commits it +# creates when a pull request is merged from the web +# git shortlog, git log and git blame read this file and collapse them. +sahilkalgutkar <87792369+sahilkalgutkar@users.noreply.github.com> +sahilkalgutkar Sahil Kalgutkar
