I use photon-docker for dawarich. It's great because everything happens automatically.

I saw that this got merged a few weeks ago.

With photon v2.x only 87GB are used for the entire planet. This feature will reduce it a bit more. It's also better and faster when you want to update your db

Are there any plans to implement this feature for photon-docker as well?

Thanks for pointing this out, very useful. You can probably set FILE_URL to https://download1.graphhopper.com/public/photon-db-planet-reverse-only.tar.bz2 (edit: that will probably fail since the file is not bz2).

But instead of that, I've ran (yes jokes on us, the bz2 file is actually gzip, so don't use lbzip2):

mkdir -p ./photon_data/temp
curl -Lo ./photon_data/temp/photon-db-latest.tar.bz2 https://download1.graphhopper.com/public/photon-db-planet-reverse-only.tar.bz2
tar xavf ./photon_data/temp/photon-db-latest.tar.bz2 -C ./photon_data/temp/
mv ./photon_data/temp/photon_data ./photon_data/

with the Compose file:

Yes, I've limited the bastard to 512 MB and it started up, the response times seem instant, despite being a tad less than the recommended 64 GB.

Edit: in fact I see it doesn't seem to use much memory at all, seems it could even be limited to something like 256 or 384 MB:
