I think, either approach is fine, as long as the path is documented.

The supplied mock is probably the simpler and safer choice: if the interface changes in a future release, your local stub can’t drift because there isn’t one.

It could even live in its own package—say, @react-native-async-storage/async-storage-mock.

Yeah, make sense and it's easier to point jest mock to stub in the package, rather than go find it in a doc. Ok, let me add this in then. Thanks for reporting
