[Bug]: Error with message "Interface could not be loaded. Switching to bezel." Then QS crippled.

Bug description

Since latest update, when starting QS, now get this message "Interface could not be loaded. Switching to bezel." App shows in dock but is not functional. Selecting QS in Dock will bring up QS menu but no selections from menu work - can't get settings, catalogue, triggers, extensions. Have deleted and reinstalled latest version. Among other odd aspects, to best of my memory I had always used the bezel interface.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open QS from application folder.
2. Get error message from sidebar "Interface could not be loaded. Switching to bezel."

Expected behavior

QS would load with usual settings and keystroke trigger. Instead, even menus are unresponsive.

Not clear it is related to any optional plugin.

I have downloaded and installed QS V2.5.6 and it is running normally. At later time may try walking the versions forward to see if it occurs with later releases of V 2.5. Else hope bug report gets response to fix V 2.6

Which interface are you trying to use?

My recollection was that I had it set to a default interface (bezel?). When the problem occurs, I can't even get to the settings menu to see what is selected. Though I can get the QS menu to appear in the menu bar, nothing in the menu will work. I mean nothing - not even "About QuickSilver" brings up the usual window.

Added comment - now the problem is back even with the older version of QS (V2.5.6). Can't understand why.
I'm debating deleting the app and all the resources and plists it seems to have stashed in the Library.

After deleting caches, app worked for one instance. Determined that it had been set to default bezel interface.
After 2nd start, launch of app gave same unresponsive menus, etc.
Is there a log or console file I could provide to help track down issue?
I've noticed another issue report that sounds like mine.

I normally use Nostromo. Using 2.6.0, I’ve tried Bezel and Bezel Classic with restarts and can’t reproduce any issues.

You could try opening the Console (/System/Applications/Utilities/Console.app) before you open Quicksilver, then copy the messages that come through during startup and share them here.

Regardless of the interface setting (bezel or primer), there is an existing cache at HD/Users/Me/Library/Caches with name com.blacktree.Quicksilver, the launch of QC fails.
They system log itself contained no info. I started the console logging for the computer and generated outputs for a success full launch (no cache) and an unsuccessful launch (with cache). Attached are those long lines of console in each case. I'm not a savant and can't extract a meaning from them.

Let me put add some points of info:

• This problem started after I did my Mac OS update from Sequoia to Tahoe.
• QuickSilver and all start up items and most extensions were disabled for the startup process.
• QS problems ensued when I tried using them again and did the QS update to 2.6.
• I have avoided a full uninstall of QS and restart so all the cataloguing would not have to be redone.
  If any one reads this and has advice, I'd appreciate it.

After adding in the Nostromo plugin for the alternate interface, restarting the app while there was a cache file present still have the message of not finding the interface, switching to bezel.
My approach now is to get the interface to work properly by deleting the cache and using the QS interface options to delete the app, scrub out all residue of it, and reinstall.

If this serves to let teh QS community know of an issue, then it will be worth it. I LOVE QS and hope I can get it working again.

I UNINSTALLED QUICKSILVER AND PURGED FILES EVERYWHERE I COULD. DELETED TRASH AND RESTARTED. THEN DID FRESH INSTALL OF QS 2.6. QS LAUNCHES ONCE OKAY, AND THEN ENSUING STARTS GIVE THE MESSAGE THAT THE INTERFACE CAN'T BE FOUND, SWITCHING TO BEZEL (WHICH IS THE DEFAULT I SET IT TO) AND THEN IS NON-FUNCTIONAL.

Excuse the all caps emphasis. This was my last shot at getting back the utility that I have used and loved for over a decade.

I hope I learn of future updates to the app that fix this. And I find it hard to believe I'm the only user with this issue.

A couple of things:

1. This sounds like [Bug]: interface could not be loaded switching to bezel #2974 which should have been fixed
2. The files in ~/Library/Caches/com.blacktree.Quicksilver aren’t that important. If you want to “reset” QS, quit the app and delete ~/Library/Caches/Quicksilver then restart.
3. Do you have any especially large catalog entries enabled, like Safari history or a folder that scanned to a large depth?

It's true that I had some catalogued locations searched to a deeper level - like 5 or 6.
After I scrubbed QS and did the reinstall, these locations are now back at the default of only cataloguing at 1 or 2 levels. And there are no catalogued locations in the User section. Nevertheless, the error continues.
I'll try deleting that /Library/Caches/Quicksilver and see what happens.

Deleted all QS components in ~/Library/Caches. Also deleted QS from application support. Restart. Reintsall QS 2.6.
Seems to be working now. Will set cataloguing up to my preferences.
One odd thing -something is sticking around when I do the purge. When I open the fresh install of QS, it has the custom key combo I use for the trigger, instead of the default of command/space.

Generally - things seem to be working normally. Except QS icon will not appear in menu bar. May play with restarts and dumping preferences panes to see if it resolves.
But all in all, not in the desperate state I was in. Thanks for the pointers.

Chiming in that this hit me today out of the blue. Restarted my system running macOS Tahoe 26.4.1 after installing the latest version of Pro Tools. Repeatedly got the Bezel interface notification with no further app functionality. Deleting ~/Library/Caches/Quicksilver managed to restore it to a functional state.
