500 Error Upon Publishing Post

I published a post while "Send Notification" was checked. The request churned for a while and eventually 500'd. Looking at my error_log I'm seeing:

I replaced API key info with {code} blocks.

I can give more details view email.

The duplicate entry errors are expected, the timeouts are concerning.

Maybe you have too many subscribers and WordPress is taking too much to send notifications. I'll ask you more details (how many subscribers you have) by email.

I'm going to use http://php.net/manual/en/function.set-time-limit.php to avoid the problem altogether.
