Project: MicroClaw

1. What MicroClaw Is and Is Not

MicroClaw is an experimental open-source project initiated by Microsoft that aims to provide users a secure execution environment and user interface for the independently developed, open-source OpenClaw software that users have installed on their devices. The OpenClaw software's behaviors, decisions, and generated outputs are solely determined by user's prompts, OpenClaw software and user-configured AI services, which Microsoft does not operate or control. MicroClaw is not an AI service, it doesn't contain an AI model, nor does it generate or alter user prompts, responses, or any AI-generated contents on behalf of users.

2. AI Tasks are User Self-managed

All AI tasks including inferencing and content generation are solely performed by OpenClaw software with the AI model of your choice, accessed via your own API key and credentials. Microsoft does not host, control or operate any AI service you connect to through MicroClaw.

MicroClaw is limited to providing you with a sandboxed, permission-controlled runtime experience when you run OpenClaw software. Please be always mindful of the following:

AI-generated content may be incorrect, AI is not a human, and it has no personality.

3. AI Actions, Orchestration, and Logging Are Performed by OpenClaw

All autonomous agent actions — including file operations, browser automation, code execution, and interactions with external services — are orchestrated by OpenClaw, not by MicroClaw. MicroClaw acts solely as a transport proxy to forward your prompts to OpenClaw software for processing and then display the contents generated by OpenClaw within the sandboxed execution host of your choice.

All AI responses, agent orchestration, and AI interaction logging are owned and managed by OpenClaw. Microsoft and MicroClaw do not have visibility into, control over, or responsibility for the content of your prompts, the AI responses generated, or the actions taken by OpenClaw. Microsoft does not store or access any user data that is transmitted through MicroClaw, all data processing by OpenClaw are subject to its terms and conditions.

4. MicroClaw Does Not Modify or Filter Your Prompts

MicroClaw simply functions as a secure execution environment and user interface, it passes your prompts directly to OpenClaw without modification, filtering, or content screening. What you submit to OpenClaw via MicroClaw is what OpenClaw receives and acts upon. Microsoft does not intercept, store, review, or sanitize prompt content sent through MicroClaw.

5. Scope of Sandbox Protection

MicroClaw uses Windows AppContainer isolation to restrict what resources OpenClaw can access on your device. This sandbox limits access to files and system resources you have not explicitly permitted. However, the sandbox does not prevent OpenClaw or the LLM from performing actions within the permissions you have granted.

6. Permission Grants and Consent

When MicroClaw requests access to folders or system resources on your behalf, it will explain the intent behind each request. You should review these requests carefully before granting access. Granting broad or blanket permissions ("allow all") to an autonomous agent like OpenClaw carries significantly greater risk than granting similar permissions to traditional software and tools. OpenClaw may perform real, consequential actions across everything you permit it to access. Grant only the minimum permissions necessary for your intended task.

7. Prompt Injection and Social Engineering Risks

Even though MicroClaw is not an AI service, please be mindful: Autonomous AI tools can be manipulated through adversarial prompts, including content embedded in files, web pages, emails, or messages from untrusted parties. A malicious actor may attempt to trick you into running a prompt that causes OpenClaw to perform harmful actions. You are responsible for reviewing all prompts before submission and for not running prompts from untrusted sources. Microsoft and MicroClaw are not responsible for any damages or consequences arising from actions carried out by OpenClaw.

8. Installation, Third-Party Software, and User Credentials

MicroClaw provides sample scripts as a convenience to help download and install OpenClaw releases from third-party sources. Microsoft does not guarantee the availability, integrity, or security of any third-party software obtained through this process. Users are solely responsible for verifying the integrity of downloaded software and for any risks arising from installing third-party packages on their device.

Any credentials you configure during setup — including API keys, model endpoint URLs, and authentication tokens — are submitted directly to OpenClaw for its own use. MicroClaw does not store, transmit, or manage these credentials. Microsoft has no access to, control over, or responsibility for user-provided credentials or the external services they authenticate against.

9. No Warranties; Limitation of Liability

MicroClaw is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. Microsoft and the project contributors make no representations or warranties regarding the safety, accuracy, reliability, or legality of outputs or actions produced by OpenClaw or any connected experiences. Use of this software is entirely at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Microsoft and contributors shall not be liable for any damages arising from use of this software or any third-party AI service accessed through it.
