CollapseOS is a neat little project under heavy active development. Intended to be a self-hosting and replicating 8-bit OS for recovering from a disaster situation. It currently targets a number of common Z80 based machines and the mailstation would likely be a great fit. Support for external storage is required. In order to fit in with their design philosophy it would need to require as little external hardware as possible to support an SD card. While this may be a goal at some point, the first step to that should be a more specialized dongle device for the Mailstation.
No due dateLofty goal of supporting CP/M which was one of the original goals of the Mailstation group. Support for stock CP/M requires a hardware mod to remap RAM in to slot0000. Normally slot0000 is hardwired to CF page 0. CP/M depends on being able to bootstrap the system from 0x0000 from some kind of ROM, but later being able to remap RAM there.
