tools: msloader: Wanted feature list

Create a "stage 2" loader app. This would be more full featured, better integrated in to the Mailstation OS, etc. This would overwrite the smaller app.

Once this is done, the original loader app can be shrunk down even further. Remove more of the app header. Will result in invalid/blank name in addition to no icon, but would be ~10 bytes smaller or so.

Feature requirements:

• Have UI that functions as mailstation app; i.e. be able to enter the app and exit out of it without any hassle Going to be far easier to implement a poweroff/reboot than a way to just back out of the menu. Removing this for now.
• Ability to load, run, and self-write to dataflash. First run needs to detect it is running from RAM and provide an option to self-write to dataflash and re-launch from there.
• Needs to be able to be able to sequentially enable/disable channels to support writing to a new location if possible.
• Ability to self-replicate to another Mailstation. When launched, have a menu option to self-upload the code to another Mailstation. This will help quickly bootstrap multiple units without the need for a PC.
• Customized icon
• Ability to download data direct to RAM or dataflash (maybe codeflash?) and optionally not jump to location after download complete. e.g. First option is "quick run" which just downloads to RAM and runs. Beyond that are options to select RAM or dataflash, channel number in dataflash, and if no desire to execute after download. This would allow you to just download and save an app, or several in quick succession if wanted.
• Download progress indicator. Even if just a counter of expected and received bytes. Would definitely be slower when writing to dataflash directly.
• 'spew' process to quickly dump full contents of codeflash and dataflash to host.

Potential features:

• Other app upload. Ability to select dataflash channel to upload to another device. Could queue up multiple as well potentially. (tools: mailsend: Create mailsend app for Mailstation #6) There is no parsing of the dataflash channel contents, but, its possible to just send any arbitrary channel.
• Multi-app bootstrap. e.g. indicate number of programs to be downloaded, and what channel to start placing them in. This would allow quick bringup of new devices to have the full amount channels that all do different things. After putting some thought in to it, this is not really worth implementing.
• Communication to custom device on parallel port. Provide an interface to view and select potential binaries to download and run.
