Hey John, so I was thinking of adding a strict Allowed and Forbidden CRUD operations, almost config like per mode to really make explict exactly what crud permissions the model can and can't take per mode, would love to hear your thoughts?

The CRUD-style approach provides clear boundaries, but we need to ensure it doesn't overly restrict AI capabilities or create frustration for users. Here are some ideas for implementing this approach while maintaining flexibility:

Layered Permission System
We could implement a layered permission system that provides both structure and flexibility:

1. Core Permissions: Strict, non-negotiable permissions that protect against destructive operations
   -Example: EXECUTE mode can NEVER modify files not explicitly listed in the approved plan
2. Flexible Permissions: Configurable permissions that users can adjust based on their comfort level
   -Example: RESEARCH mode's ability to recursively explore directories could be toggled
3. Exception Mechanisms: Clear pathways for the AI to request temporary exceptions
   -Example: "I need to examine related files to understand this function better. Would you like me to search for all files referencing this pattern?"

Explicit User Override Commands
Create specific commands that allow users to temporarily grant additional permissions:

/allow_tool read_directory for this request
/allow_operation search_codebase_wide for this session
/unlock_mode_restrictions until task complete

Progressive Trust System
Implement a system that adapts restrictions based on user behavior:

1. Initial State: Start with strict permissions
2. Trust Building: As the user explicitly approves AI actions, gradually relax certain restrictions

4. Sensible Defaults: Configure reasonable defaults based on common use cases

Progressive Introduction
Introduce these controls gradually:

1. Start with a minimal set of core restrictions to establish the pattern
2. Add more nuanced permissions over time
3. Allow users to "opt in" to stricter controls as they become comfortable with the framework

I am also working on adding code protection to the CursorRIPER Framework, which will help protect your code from unwanted AI changes. We've all been there—the AI gets too eager and changes perfectly working code.

With this new protection system, you can mark sections of your code as "hands-off" for the AI. It's like putting up a "Do Not Touch" sign on your most important code.

Different Protection Levels

• PROTECTED: Absolute no-go zone. AI will NEVER touch this code.
• GUARDED: "Ask first" zone. AI must get your permission before changing.
• DEBUG: Keeps your debugging code safe during development.
• TEST: Protects your test code from being removed.
• INFO: Gives context while allowing careful changes.
• CRITICAL: Business-critical code with special handling.

Just add simple comments to your code:

How It Works With RIPER
This protection system fits perfectly with the existing workflow:

• In RESEARCH mode: AI identifies protected sections
• In PLAN mode: AI plans around protected code
• In EXECUTE mode: AI won't modify protected code
• In REVIEW mode: AI verifies that the protected code wasn't touched
