1. Overview

This script is a standalone tool derived from the AutoIntegrate script. It is designed for Selective Color enhancements similar to the similar tool in Photoshop**.** It allows you to make precise color corrections by targeting specific color ranges in your image.

Selective Color works by isolating specific color ranges (Reds, Yellows, Greens, Cyans, Blues, Magentas) or tonal ranges (Whites, Neutrals, Blacks) and allowing you to shift their color values using CMYK-style adjustments.

2. Inputs & Parameters

• Target Image: Select the open image window you wish to enhance.
• Color selector
  • Reds - Targets red and orange tones (emission nebulae like H-alpha regions)
  • Yellows - Targets yellow and gold tones (certain stars, dust clouds)
  • Greens - Targets green tones (OIII emissions, some reflection nebulae)
  • Cyans - Targets cyan tones (certain ionized regions)
  • Blues - Targets blue tones (reflection nebulae, blue stars)
  • Magentas - Targets magenta/purple tones (SII emissions, mixed regions)
  • Whites - Targets bright areas (star cores, bright nebulae)
  • Neutrals - Targets mid-tones (background, subtle structures)
  • Blacks - Targets dark areas (space background, dark nebulae)
• Method Selector
  • Relative Mode (Default) - Adjusts colors proportionally to their existing values. This is the most natural-looking mode and prevents over-saturation.
  • Absolute Mode - Applies fixed color shifts regardless of existing color amounts. Use this for more dramatic effects or when you need precise color addition.
• CMYK Adjustment Sliders - Each slider ranges from -100% to +100% with color hint boxes showing the shift direction:
  • Cyan Slider
    • Negative values (← Red box): Adds red, removes cyan
    • Positive values (Cyan box →): Adds cyan, removes red
    • Use for: Shifting red nebulae more orange, or cooling down warm tones
  • Magenta Slider
    • Negative values (← Green box): Adds green, removes magenta
    • Positive values (Magenta box →): Adds magenta, removes green
    • Use for: Enhancing Ha-OIII separations, adjusting SII regions
  • Yellow Slider
    • Negative values (← Blue box): Adds blue, removes yellow
    • Positive values (Yellow box →): Adds yellow, removes blue
    • Use for: Warming or cooling star colors, adjusting oxygen emissions
  • Black Slider
    • Negative values (← White box): Lightens the selected color range
    • Positive values** (Black box →): Darkens the selected color range
    • Use for: Bringing out faint details, controlling star brightness
• Tips - Start with Small Adjustments
  • Begin with values between -10 and +10
  • Preview the effect before going to extremes
  • Large adjustments (>50%) can create unnatural results
• Undo and redo: There are undo and redo buttons for easier iteration between different gradient correction methods.
• Save and load setup: It is possible to save settings to a json file, and load settings from a Json file.

3. Output

• A new Image: A new output image is created that includes color enhancements done.
