You can assign {{site.data.keyword.cloud}} security group objects to instances in one of two ways. {: shortdesc}
{: #using-the-security-menu}

From the IBM Cloud console, click the Menu icon
> Classic Infrastructure to view the Classic Infrastructure landing page.

From the Classic Infrastructure menu, select Security > Network Security > Security Groups to view the Security Groups page.

On the Security Groups page, click the
icon of the Security Group object that you want to assign instances to, then select Manage Instances. -
Select the instance and interface to apply to the security group.

Click Save to apply the changes.

Restart your instance.
This action is a one-time-only step per network interface for instances that are not created with a security group. {: note}

From the IBM Cloud console, click the Menu icon
> Classic Infrastructure to view the Classic Infrastructure landing page.

From the Classic Infrastructure menu, select Devices > Device List to view the Devices page.

On the Devices page, click the instance name where you want to apply the security group object.

In the Security Groups column, click View and select the security group objects that you want to associate with the instance.

In the Security group changes modal that appears, click OK to apply the changes.

Restart the instance.
This action is a one-time-only step per network interface for instances that are not created with a security group. {: note}

Edit the security group to modify its parameters.
