Can you add permissions for Bluetooth and Wifi? I’d love to use it for networking projects, and this is my favorite shell right now.

Hi thanks for writing back! Yes, you see I’m trying to use bleak and pyobjc-framework-CoreBluetooth on the shell and I get more or less the following errors consistently. I’m attaching screenshots to this email. Pythonista has a built in CoreBluetooth module named cb, among other iOS specific modules, which are neat, but they don’t have pip, and I like your shell best. Was there any further progress with using Bluetooth libraries within a-shell?

I am considering writing some small scripts which can poll some open source battery hardware but haven’t found confirmation if it’ll even be supported from within the app.

I am seeing all the messages. This one is just so much above what I know and understand about the system.
I've had a look. With Python 3.13 and the newest bleak, this is a different error message. But basically it works with Pythonista because bleak has a specific backend for Pythonista, and it doesn't work with a-Shell because that specific backend is not activated for a-Shell.

I have been experimenting with rubicon.objc to get access to functions like bluetooth (through CoreBluetooth) but this is currently not working as Apple wants to have the NSBluetoothAlwaysUsageDescription property set in the Info.plist file. Could this also be done for NFCReaderUsageDescription and NSLocationAlwaysAndWhenInUseUsageDescription?

I've added the first two, they will be in the next TestFlight build. The third one is more tricky: Apple expects developers to have a good reason to access location info, and currently a-Shell doesn't have a good reason (that could change). For example, I've already had to explain about the background audio capabilities multiple times, and they are less strict about this one than location info.

First of all thanks for implementing this so fast. Have you tried adding location before because i see it the same way as in #598 they really don't have a reason to accept iSH and not a-Shell but couldn't you argue that since this is a glorified browser you need access to allow people to visit websites like maps.apple.com? But maybe this discussion should be continued in #598.

This is good news. I was able to install the branched pip version hbldh/bleak#1853 of bleak alongside this latest TestFlight beta and am able to interface BLE devices from a-shell directly. I have a bit of porting to do before testing my full suite of scripts works. But I am happy. Thank you both.

I also got Bluetooth to work but NFC still doesn't work 100% as for reading NFC tags another entitlement is needed (#1031).

I ran into issues using bluetooth with a-shell via the extension(shortcut) and discovered that there needs to be some extra UIBackgroundModes added to support it. I have made a PR here #1033
