Wayland compatibility under Linux

To make it work under Linux with Wayland, you can for example add -Dawt.toolkit.name=WLToolkit with a JRE equipped with WLToolkit.

This will completely bypass the XWayland compatibility layer and provide all the benefits that Wayland has to offer.
