Missing Vulkan Library from Release tarball

The release notes mention libggml-vulkan.so should be bundled with the archive. I don't see it in the latest release. It looks like the build and release script is not looking for it yet. I would love to test this functionality out. I'm also going to do a local build and test it but I wanted to report it also.

It's there, just in the other tarball. The release has two:

• fox-0.20.5-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu-vulkan.tar.gz -> contains libggml-vulkan.so (40 MB unpacked)
• fox-0.20.5-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu.tar.gz -> CPU only, no Vulkan backend

I just downloaded both to confirm. Sounds like you got the second one, which is easy to do since it's the one without a suffix.

The Vulkan build needs glibc 2.39+ and a Vulkan driver on the host (Mesa RADV, ANV, etc.). Unpack it and keep all the .so files next to the fox binary, it's linked with RPATH=$ORIGIN so it looks for them there.

If you'd rather not pick by hand, install.sh checks for /dev/dri and grabs the Vulkan build automatically:

curl -fsSL https://github.com/ferrumox/fox/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sh

--vulkan or --cpu force it either way.

To check it's actually using the GPU once it's running, fox probe prints the active backend, something like Vulkan0 � AMD Radeon 890M. If it says CPU with the Vulkan tarball installed, that's a driver problem on the host rather than a packaging one and I'd like to hear about it.

That said, your report is fair: the release page has no notes on it at all, so there's nothing there saying two builds exist or which one you want. That's on me and I'll fix it for the next release.
