Field reference

Column definitions for each sample file. Full field documentation for every paid tier is on the corresponding product page at postalup.com/downloads.

zipcode_database_standard_sample.csv

ZIP-level records. A ZIP appears once per city/alias name; isPrimaryRecord = true marks the preferred row for the ZIP.

Column	Description
zipCode	5-digit ZIP code (keep as text — leading zeros matter)
zipClassificationType	Classification: Standard, Unique, PO Box, Military
cityName	City or place name for this record (uppercase)
stateCode	2-letter state abbreviation
countyName	County name (uppercase)
isMultiCounty	Whether the ZIP spans multiple counties
phoneAreaCode	Primary telephone area code for the ZIP
timeZoneName	Time zone name
utcOffset	UTC offset in hours
observesDaylightSaving	Whether daylight saving time is observed
zipCodeType	ZIP type (Standard, Unique, PO Box, Military)
cityNameType	Whether this row's city name is the Default or an Acceptable/Not-acceptable alias
stateFullName	Full state name
stateFipsCode	2-digit state FIPS code
countyFipsCode	3-digit county FIPS code (combine with state FIPS for the 5-digit code)
stateAnsiCode / countyAnsiCode	ANSI codes where present
cityAliasAbbreviation	Abbreviated alias name where present
cityAliasName	Alias city name for non-default rows
cityAliasTypeCode	Alias type code
cityNameFormatted / cityAliasFormatted / countyNameFormatted	Mixed-case display versions
isPrimaryRecord	true on the preferred row for each ZIP
latitude / longitude	ZIP centroid coordinates (decimal degrees)
elevationInFeet	Approximate elevation
facilityType	Postal facility type for the record
preferredLastLineKey / cityStateKey	Last-line and city/state keys used to relate ZIP and ZIP+4 records
facilityCode	Single-letter facility code
isUniqueZipCode	Whether the ZIP is assigned to a single organization
hasCityDelivery	Whether city delivery service exists
carrierRouteRateSortation	Carrier-route rate sortation indicator
postalFinanceNumber	Postal finance number

zip_4_database_standard_sample.csv

Street-level ZIP+4 address ranges. Each row is a range of addresses on one street that shares a +4 code.

Column	Description
zipCode	5-digit ZIP code
zipPlus4	4-digit add-on
zipCodeFull	ZIP-plus4 combined (e.g. 00501-0001)
addressPrimaryLow / addressPrimaryHigh	Low/high primary street number of the range
addressPrimaryParity	Which side of the range applies: Odd, Even, or Both
streetPreDirectional / streetPostDirectional	Directionals (N, SW, ...)
streetName	Street name (uppercase)
streetSuffix	Street suffix (AVE, ST, ...)
buildingOrFirmName	Building or firm name for firm records
unitDesignator	Secondary unit designator (APT, STE, ...)
addressSecondaryLow / addressSecondaryHigh / addressSecondaryParity	Secondary (unit) number range
recordType	Record type: Street, Firm, High-rise, PO Box, Rural route, General delivery
carrierRoute	Carrier route id serving the range
addressDeliveryPointCode	2-digit delivery point code
addressCheckDigit	Check digit for the delivery point barcode
cityName / stateCode / countyName	Locality fields (uppercase)
countyFipsCode	5-digit county FIPS
stateFullName	Full state name
cityNameFormatted / countyNameFormatted / preferredCityName	Display versions and preferred last-line city
preferredLastLineKey / cityStateKey	Keys joining to the ZIP Code Database
latitudePrecise / longitudePrecise	Coordinates where present (higher tiers add coverage)
coordinatePrecisionLevel	Precision level of the coordinates
censusTract / censusTractSuffix / censusBlockGroup	Census geography identifiers where present
carrierRouteType	Type of the carrier route (City, Rural, PO Box, ...)
zipCodeCompleteDataset	Whether the ZIP's full range set is present in the full product
addressRecordUpdateDate	Date the record was last updated

area_code_database_basic_sample.csv

One row per NPA (3-digit area code).

Column	Description
npa_id	3-digit area code
location	Primary location/region served
state	2-letter state abbreviation (blank for non-geographic codes)
country	Country code (US, CA, ...)
time_zone	Time zone letter code (E, C, M, P, ...)
in_service	Whether the code is in service (Y/N)
in_service_date	Date the code entered service
type_of_code	General Purpose Code, Easily Recognizable Code, etc.
assignable	Whether the code is assignable
assignment_date	Date of assignment
is_overlay	Whether the code is an overlay (Y/N)
zip_count	Number of ZIP codes associated with the area code

Carrier-route assignments per ZIP.

Column	Description
zip_code	5-digit ZIP code
carrier_route_id	Route id (first letter encodes type: C city, R rural, B PO Box section, H highway contract, G general delivery)
carrier_route_type	Human-readable route type
city_name / state_abbreviation / county_name	Locality
county_fips	5-digit county FIPS
record_count	Number of ZIP+4 records on the route
zip4_range_min / zip4_range_max	Bounds of the +4 range covered

Address-level geocodes.

address_number	Primary street number
street_name	Street name (uppercase)
street_type	Street suffix
city / state_abbreviation	Locality
zip_code / zip_plus4	ZIP and +4 add-on
latitude / longitude	Coordinates (decimal degrees)
county_fips	5-digit county FIPS
confidence_score	Geocode confidence, 0-1
