Surah 1: Al-Fatihah (The Opening)

Ayah  —  Arabic (Uthmani)  /  Audio (Mishary Alafasy)  /  Transliteration (Tanzil.net & Unicode Project)  /  English (Pickthall, Yusuf Ali, Saheeh Int’l, Qarai & Hilali-Khan)  /  English Explanation (Abridged)  /  हिन्दी अनुवाद (Farooq Khan & Suhail)  /  हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Al-Mokhtasar)  /  ગુજરાતી (Rabila Al-Umry)
Ayah 1
Audio (Alafasy)
English (Yusuf Ali)In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
English (Saheeh Int’l)In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
English (Qarai)In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
English (Hilali-Khan)In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
English (Abridged Expl.)I begin by calling on Allah, Who is Ar-Raḥmān, the Merciful, and Ar-Raḥīm, the Compassionate. These last two names of Allah are derived from the Arabic word raḥmah, which means mercy: proving the greatness and vastness of His Mercy and that His Mercy surrounds everything, and embraces all living beings. Every blessing is due to His mercy, and the believers receive the greatest mercy.
English (Yusuf Ali)Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;
English (Saheeh Int’l)[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds -
English (Qarai)All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds,
English (Hilali-Khan)All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
English (Abridged Expl.)All praise belongs to Allah with regards to His essence, attributes and actions, because He is the Creator of everything. Everything belongs to Him and He is the disposer of their affairs; blessing individuals specifically and humans in general.
English (Yusuf Ali)Most Gracious, Most Merciful;
English (Saheeh Int’l)The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,
English (Qarai)the All-beneficent, the All-merciful,
English (Hilali-Khan)The Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
English (Abridged Expl.)Two names of Allah, Ar-Raḥmān and Ar-Raḥīm, derived from the word raḥmah, or mercy: indicating His mercy for creation, with the believers being the greatest recipients of it.
English (Yusuf Ali)Master of the Day of Judgment.
English (Saheeh Int’l)Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.
English (Qarai)Master of the Day of Retribution.
English (Hilali-Khan)The Only Owner (and the Only Ruling Judge) of the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)
English (Abridged Expl.)He is the Master of the day of Judgement, the day in which we will be brought back to life and repaid for what we have done, all of His creation will be held accountable for their actions and recompensed for them. On that day God will ask “To whom belongs the Kingdom today?” [Sūrah Ghafir: 16] No one, no matter how high his status, will answer, and then God will reply Himself, “to God, the One, the Overcomer” [Sūrah Ghafir: 16]
English (Yusuf Ali)Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek.
English (Saheeh Int’l)It is You we worship and You we ask for help.
English (Qarai)You [alone] do we worship, and to You [alone] do we turn for help.
English (Hilali-Khan)You (Alone) we worship, and you (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).
English (Abridged Expl.)We worship and obey none except You; we associate no one with You, and from You alone do we ask for help in all our affairs. All goodness is in Your hand, and there is no helper except You.

English (Saheeh Int’l)Guide us to the straight path -
English (Qarai)Guide us on the straight path,
English (Hilali-Khan)Guide us to the Straight Way
English (Abridged Expl.)Show and facilitate for us the right way, the path of submission to You which has no crookedness, and make us firm upon it –
English (Yusuf Ali)The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath, and who go not astray.
English (Saheeh Int’l)The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.
English (Qarai)the path of those whom You have blessed — such as have not incurred Your wrath, nor are astray.
English (Hilali-Khan)The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger, nor of those who went astray.
English (Abridged Expl.)The same path as those of Your creation whom You have blessed with guidance, such as the prophets, the truthful, martyrs, and the righteous ones. What good companions these people make! Keep us away from the path of those who earned Your anger, who knew the truth and did not follow it – as was the case with the Israelites; and keep us away from the path of those who lost their way and were not guided, because they were neglectful in seeking the Truth and being guided by it – as was the case with the Christians.
