Holding shift1 should turn the tick bar into a pattern bank. The current pattern will be green, ideally flashing in time, the cued pattern yellow (also flashing), other patterns red and empty patterns blank (so initially just green). Pressing a pattern makes it open for editing, both shifts and press cues the pattern, switching to it for editing and playing it on the beginning of the next loop (maybe change the colour of the tick marker when in a pattern that's not playing?. Once a pattern is open it has the same bank structure etc.
