RustChan is self-hosted imageboard software written in Rust. This Code of Conduct governs participation in the RustChan project: issues, pull requests, reviews, discussions, and other project-managed spaces.
It does not govern independently operated RustChan instances. Each operator is responsible for that instance's laws, moderation rules, content, users, security, and infrastructure. The RustChan project does not operate, endorse, monitor, or control those sites.
Project participants are expected to:
- discuss ideas and code without attacking the people behind them;
- give technically specific, constructive feedback;
- respect differing experience levels, backgrounds, and communication styles;
- keep reports focused and remove personal, private, or instance-sensitive information;
- accept maintainer decisions about project scope and move on when a decision is final; and
- help keep public project spaces useful for contributors and operators.
The following is not acceptable in project-managed spaces:
- harassment, threats, stalking, intimidation, or sustained personal attacks;
- discriminatory or demeaning language or imagery;
- sexualized attention directed at another participant;
- publishing or threatening to publish another person's private information;
- sharing credentials, private keys, database contents, private media, onion private keys, or other sensitive instance data;
- posting illegal content or using the repository to coordinate illegal activity; or
- filing project issues to pursue moderation disputes or abuse reports about an independently operated RustChan site.
Good-faith technical discussion of abuse resistance, content handling, moderation tooling, media validation, Tor behavior, or security is welcome when it is necessary to improve RustChan and uses sanitized evidence.
Maintainers may edit or remove contributions that violate this Code of Conduct and may warn, temporarily restrict, or permanently remove a participant from project-managed spaces. Decisions should consider context, severity, repeated behavior, and the safety of other participants.
For conduct visible on GitHub, use GitHub's report, block, and abuse-reporting controls where applicable. Do not open a public issue containing personal information or sensitive conduct-report evidence. The project currently publishes no private conduct-reporting address; maintainers should add one if they adopt a private reporting process.
Questions about operating or moderating a separate RustChan instance belong with that instance's operator, not the RustChan project. See SUPPORT.md for repository support boundaries.
