Lots of reports of white bars at edges of screen since updating to cordova-android@15.0.0

Problem

What is expected to happen?

We make Construct, a browser-based game development editor. Since updating to cordova-android@15.0.0, we have received a lot of reports of people's Android Cordova apps showing white bars along the edges. Picture provided by one user of how it looked before:

So far it seems all affected devices use Android 14 or older - we're not aware of Android 15+ being affected. As Android 15 now requires EdgeToEdge mode we suspect this PR may have a fix: #1902

This notes the following:

When having cordova android in Edge To Edge the app does not extend to the full height of the device in version bellow Android 15.

Therefore we would request a patch release of Cordova Android to include this fix as it's having a significant impact and we're getting a lot of reports of this.

Hi, can you reproduce the issue in the emulator? If so you could check the master if it works. The release process of cordova-android 15.1.0 will be started soon, but you have to wait some time before it is out.

Pretty sure I'm reproducing the same issue on my own apps on Android 9 using cordova-android@nightly (and also reproduced on v15.0.0).

I have both AndroidEdgeToEdge and StatusBarOverlaysWebView (which I'm not sure if that preference is relevant anymore) set to true and I have a white bar where the status bar goes. It seems the webview doesn't start at the edge of the screen which would be expected given the configuration. Statusbar plugin is not installed.

EDIT: I've been recently notified that nightly is no longer published since NPM started cracking down on long lived access tokens. Installing directly from github did fix the issues I was seeing.

BTW, setting StatusBarOverlaysWebView in config.xml has no impact when not using the external status bar plugin.
