AisStream.io is being used to demonstrate the ability to extend the existing Web Map Service product with layers from alternate data sources. In this example the service renders AIS vessels as map layers using military symbology or using custom symbology. Using this approach allows disadvantaged clients to consume the data as an image or with a standards compliant OGC WMS client.
