Problem statement
With the recent additions (and ongoing further development) of
we also want to show these new connectivity options ("protocols") under Settings like we do with existing ones as shown below:
In alignment with our current approach we only show these new connectivity panels when the integration is set up.
As a first step we are only considering to surface these connectivity panels for the ESPHome integration and respectively ESPHome devices proxying these connectivity options.
Once these ESPHome (proxy) devices are setup through the ESPHome integration these new panels should surface the new connectivity options for proxying
- Bluetooth (already available as of today)
- Serial (missing)
- IR (missing)
- RF (missing)
So, we want to add panels for
to list our proxies once the corresponding ESPHome integration was setup and the underlying ESPHome devices are emitting these connectivity capabilities respectively.

Below is just a mock:
Risks & open questions
Open questions:
- Define what to show for the respective protocol pages
- Ideate whether we want to generally re-structure the Settings page in this effort to introduce e.g. a dedicated "Connectivity" tab as opposed due adding new options to the existing list (and thus making it even longer)
