title Local Development
description Steps to run the monorepo on your machine.

Local Development

  1. Install dependencies:
    pnpm install
  2. Copy .env.example to .env and fill in the required secrets (including DATABASE_URI for the CMS database connection). If you have a Turborepo team, add your TURBO_TEAM and TURBO_TOKEN values to enable remote caching locally. Create matching secrets (TURBO_TEAM, TURBO_TOKEN) in the repository's GitHub Secrets so caching also works in CI.
  3. Start PostgreSQL and Payload CMS. The Postgres image ships with default tables and policies defined in docker/postgres/01-init.sql:
docker compose up -d cms postgres
  # or `docker-compose` if the Compose plugin isn't available

Once the CMS is running you can seed initial data with:

pnpm cms:seed
  1. Run all apps in parallel:

    pnpm turbo run dev --parallel
  2. Open http://localhost:3000 in Chrome or any desktop browser to confirm the site loads.

Use Node.js 20+ and PNPM 9+ for best results.
